Echo and I could use some good vibes right now

Sorry guys, I was in and out of it yesterday catching up on sleep and prepping to work from home this week.

Yes! He’s home!

Picked him up this morning, he is HEAVILY medicated and not happy with me at all, but he’s alive and will have a full recovery. I have several alarms in my phone now to remind me about his different meds. Surprisingly, he can eat soft solid foods already.

I didn’t see any personality out of him until he was here for a good 10-15 mins when he finally lifted his front paw so I could rub his chest when petting him. Outside of that he’s so doped up he’s almost catatonic.

Well, the best guess I have right now is samoyed/husky. I rescued him without knowing a single thing about his history or breed, but my friend knows he was purchased from a breeder for a rather expensive amount. When walking him shortly after I got him, a gentleman around the corner ran out of his house to ask me if he was a male and if he was fixed or not, saying we could be getting $10K a pop for samusky puppies then showed me his own samusky, who looks exactly like Echo. Everything looks husky for the most part, but the fur is a bit different and the hind quarters look like they’re wearing pantaloons. If it weren’t for those two things, he looks 100% husky. And talks like a husky. :rofl
Glad he made it through.
Mine looks the same and she’s a Samoyed

Still haven't figured out how to make walking him 100% fool proof, I'll be using his short lease for sure and just not letting him sniff at areas where I know he's not going to pee. The unfortunate thing is that he does the same thing before he poops as he does before he's ready to eat something; starts sniffing close to the ground with interest and it's really hard to tell the difference. He's slightly more excited to sniff out food than a poop spot, but that's the only measure. I'm just going to have to stop him from that immediately.

He's essentially still stuck in "I don't know when I'm getting food next so I need to eat everything I can", which isn't uncommon with rescues who had some turbulence in their lives before being adopted. Knowing his previous owner was homeless, it's most likely Echo had a few hungry days in his previous life.

He is so not happy right now, but it's the best that can happen for the time being. You can tell he's confused and frustrated. Fortunately I can rub his head and put him to sleep in about 15 seconds because he's so heavily medicated. Ate his meds like a champ this morning! I have some of that Kong peanut butter that comes in a can like EZ Cheez, just a little dab of that stuff on a pill and it was down the hatch!

"Funny" thing is you could place that removed corn cob in front of him and he'd 10/10 eat it again 🤣

It may sound mean but I don't really let my dog sniff around much outside and keep a short leash. I have one of the ones that slip around my waist and a handle lower down. My dog is the same, will snatch up anything it can 😬

That's super cool he is home and you can work from home this week. :beer

The key for us all is to chew our food properly. Gotta masticate that shit,
not inhale it.

Their personality differs from dog to dog. But one of my friends who is a labrador mom, is very careful when her dog sniffs too much outdoors. Because he usually licks the object after sniffing it. It can cause infections in them, I think. You know your dog's behavior better. This dog in question used to get sad and frustrated if we didn't let him sniff, so we would allow it but be watchful.

I have been fortunate to dog-sit him in his younger puppy days when he was shy of pooping outdoors. It sounds dirty and may not work for every dog, but his vet had told us to collect a tiny amount of his last day's poop in a plastic bag and when he's outdoors the next morning- keep it at a spot where he can sniff it. He would usually poop near it. Rarely he would step in this newly excreted poop. Aside from collecting it and cleaning every bit of poop from the ground, we would be tasked with cleaning his paws when we got home. Thank god he would be patient as both me and my friend did all this together.

Wishing your furbaby gets well soon. Virtual cuddles for him.

Hahahaha Echo has no shame when it comes to public pooping, while some dogs look at you out of the corner of their eye when they’re dropping a deuce, Echo just looks around for people to tell him how handsome he is. :rofl

He certainly gets frustrated when I don’t let him sniff long enough at certain spots, I’m usually pulling him away to avoid an oncoming downpour outside. Like @Mongillo19 was saying, I’ll definitely need to police this considerably more.

glad your dog had successful surgery! Does the vet do payment plans at all? I’ve had to do that so try every major medical bill especially when i was young and broke.

A couple years ago my cat swallowed a sewing needle. Luckily my wife was there and saw it happen otherwise we’d be clueless. Ran him to the vet and they had to do some emergency surgery to remove. Under $2k but he was fine after a couple days.

When I was telling the receptionist what happened the lady next to me had a big dog who also just swallowed a sewing needle! Man pets are dumb. Awesome but dumb.

Also he was high af from the sedation when he got home which was really funny and sad. Dude was trying to walk around and kept running into walls.

Things took a big positive upswing last night when I got him to go for a little walk. He was on the floor the whole day as he’s not supposed to be climbing up on the couch but since he’s always next to me on the couch, I think he was feeling like he was being punished.

We went for a walk and he took the longest pee I’ve ever seen a dog take, that alone might account for his good mood after. :ROFLMAO: We walked around the tennis court outside my apartment, he even got a little trot going on that made me nervous he was moving too fast, but he slowed down rather quickly as the meds are still hitting him hard.

The biggest change came when we were coming around the court; we got right in front of the bushes where he got the corn on the cob, almost to the door we enter the court to play catch, he paused, looked at me and his face just said “Did I do something wrong?”, I felt terrible and told him “Well bud, we can’t go play yet but you’re still my best bud, but this is why you can’t eat stuff off the ground”

When we got back inside he was staring at me/the couch, so I helped him up and he’s been up here since. His whole demeanor changed once he got up on it, lots of tail wagging whenever he’d look at me or I’d walk towards him, lots of snuggling and pushing himself against me, pretty much all my concern/worry went away at that point.

The only thing he’s been interested in eating was my pizza and a doughnut I ate last night. Got him a bunch of wet food meant for upset stomachs and easy digestion, but he’s still not interested. We’ll see how today goes with that as he’s gotta be getting hungry as hell. He’s mostly ok taking his meds, once they’re in his mouth, it’s getting them in there that’s a challenge.

This is the first morning I’ve gotten to wake up to his wagging tail since Thursday, not only is he feeling better but that made my whole week!

No payment plans down here, but I’m getting him insurance his week. A whopping $30 a month could have prevented this financial hole I’ll be in for a while. 2025 may be my first gear-less year since my teens!

Wow. He is so beautiful.

If he is not easily swallowing his meds, you can embed them inside a makeshift ball of foodstuffs he likes e.g. part of a boiled egg after removing the shell.
