With tools like the VP4 and HX Effects, why have there been no modern advancements in 4CM cabling tech?

Exactly. Bring your controller board to the front of stage and leave your actual pedals near the amp.

I do wish we had half rack unit sized l, 1U tall processors. Stack a few boxes like that on top of your amp instead of big 3U rack boxes or a pile of pedals.
This is how I've done it the most too. MIDI controller out front, one 7 pin to the rack and I power the MIDI controller through the 7 pin. With some of these awesome floorboard processors though I'd like to keep it out on the floor in front of me and have a 1 cord solution back to the amp. A breakout box dual locked to the amp is fine IMO too.

I see. I’m just saying that i doubt that premise.

OP asks for modern advancements, only one is proposed, however, it’s derided.

The GigRig is the only one with a real, albeit wired, solution with the remote switches and rack mount jack bay. https://shop.thegigrig.com/collections/switching/products/g3-extension-kit
Yeah I've thought about this. I have a morningstar MC8 and have considered taking their ML5 Loop Switcher and putting it in a rack tray with my overdrive pedals to have them switchable on command. Excellent setup, but not sure if want to go that route just yet.

Currently I'm using a loom (below) which is good enough, but I'd like to see further 4cm options developed for sure.

You doubt what premise? That Bluetooth is sluggish and unreliable? Tell me you've never owned a UAFX pedal or used Apple CarPlay without telling me...

"Sluggish and unreliable"? In what way? I've got no issues with CarPlay at all, and no issues with Bluetooth in general these days, whether it's iPhone to BT speaker, PowerBeats to iPhone, mouse to laptop or desktop, off-brand headphones to Amazon FireStick, PowerBeats to Windows machine, etc. UAFX aren't at all my favorites, having had a couple. But I wouldn't use them as the gold standard for BT connectivity.

But you are just one person. Would you truly trust BT for a stage anything solution.....during a performance?

I have BT issues all the time...... constantly. Which is why I've gone back to 1/8" connections mostly.

BT is not reliable ENOUGH....for me.

I mean, what am I using BT for during performance anyway? I've made it clear before I don't like app reliance, but it's not because of unreliability, it's just because I think it's lame having to pull a phone out to edit presence, or whatever.

EDIT

And yes, I'm one person. But I support over a thousand, and I just don't personally feel bluetooth is the crap it used to be.

To transmit switching commands and messages.....

It isn't as bad as it was ...but it isn't a solution for transmission during a gig....just me.

Especially when a venue is filled with all sorts of interference
This was the Crux of the discussion

Ah yeah. No thanks. Even running at 5Ghz, there's risk there. Not really a bluetooth thing, but more a "frequency congestion" thing in general.

I’m still doubting the premise that it can’t work. My earbuds work for full audio in a congested airport or campus with hundreds of others running similar devices. And we’re just talking about transmitting a momentary blip.

Thank you for your anecdote.

Have you been drinking? You're both arguing with me and agreeing.
