With tools like the VP4 and HX Effects, why have there been no modern advancements in 4CM cabling tech?

You don’t need long 4cm cable runs if you use a MIDI controller to your back line amp and effects. Just power the controller and a MIDI cable.

that's the best choice but rigs made like that are less practical to move around, too many pieces, too many trips to the car.

For me it's ok to move a lot of stuff for gigs but not for weekly band rehearsals.

I'd love to have a rack mounted multi fx, though.

A MIDI controllable pedalboard plus a tiny controller like Luminitefx is no problem at all.

You're very sure of your ignorance. I can respect that.
I came here from TGP to get away from this crap. I’ve gone from one music forum to another. Unfortunately, they’re full of musicians. Some are kinder that others but none are folks that I’d hang out with if we were neighbors.

I’ve been told all my life “That’s not how things are done”. I’m just not happy being forced into a mold or being a cookie cutter treat. I thought I could maybe find a place to learn and share but it’s the same everywhere. Guys, enjoy being the same.

sure but that's not my thing, I like to have a lot of switches in front of me.
I'm more a Helix Rack + Helix Control or Axefx + FS12 type.

A rack with rack drawers is ideal for this kind of setup. You can keep everything inside for transport. Of course, that means more weight. Pick your poison. Or get a roadie.

I've also used 15 foot cable snakes bound by velcro ties. Good for smaller stages. Longer runs can start suck your tone.

Calm down....things are just fine. They were just channeling your spirit of contrariness.

Hugs?😂

Glad we can all agree that Bluetooth is a dreadful idea for rack switching systems. I do like the midi controller idea. Tired of the mess on the floor.

I use a wiring loom and a junction box, and it's been fine and simple to set up and tear down.

What really bugs me about multi-fx units that do 4CM is that they don't have isolation transformers or at least a ground lift on the loop. I had to use external isolation transformers or lifted cables with all of them. It's one of the reasons I went back to individual pedals.

Some Boss units have ground lift such as the GX-100. Fractal uses humbuster cables.

That's cool about the GX100. The NuX Cerberus has a ground lift too, but most units don't.

Humbuster cables are a bit of a pain when you're using a wiring loom, unless you make one from scratch with the HB cables..
I usually get the pre made ones like the CBI Livewinder since they're less bulky than wrapping individual cables.

The other problem with humbuster cables is if you forget or break one and have to borrow or buy a cable before a gig, they're hard to find. I think these units should be set up to work with regular cables. It's not hard or expensive to do so it's weird that so many manufacturers overlook it.

I use one of these. It is small, and means I don't need lifted cables.

Humbuster cables (TRS>TS cables really) don't solve the problem by itself. I have to use one of these as well. It works fine, costs pittance, and really isn't a huge overhead to deal with.

That looks good. Too bad they don't sell it here in the USA.
I use a Lehle P-Iso. It works great but it wasn't cheap. I tried a few cheaper ones but had some high-end and signal loss with them.

But I do think the 4CM oriented multi-effects -at least the more expensive ones - should have them built into the unit because it's an essential part of this type of setup.
