Another punishing Fractal experience - VP4 content

If someone asks a question you don’t have to question their motives or intelligence. It’s not bad here but all of the product specific forums are awful at this.

I’ve never heard of an effect mix messing with the bypass level but I’m not familiar with the VP4.

I do think it’s worth spinning through the manual on any of these devices. You may learn quite a bit about the product.

Complicated device=read the manual.
If you want boss pedals buy boss pedals but don’t complain that you can’t work it if you can’t be arsed to read the manual.

Where in the manual does it say that raising the mix level of the mono tape so you can actually hear it will lower the volume of the entire preset?

What was the delay block level set at?

I'm really sorry. I have no idea what anyone's actually talking about and just wanted to take part. :sofa

Lol went from being so easy you can be a prick towards someone who didn't get it right away to being a complicated device real quick there! That's wild.

You kinda wonder if they keep designing it so badly just so that jerks online can get some of their only joy in life talking down to people?

I'm also curious, if you go to a new empty patch and then drop in that delay effect, does the volume drop then?

Can't recall if you mentioned, but did you get the unit new or used? If used, did you do a full factory reset?
There are so many variables that could be the cause it's difficult to troubleshoot without the amp and VP4 in front of you.

I’ll definitely give it a go. I need to use it for a gig on Saturday so hopefully I’ll find time to sort it. Definitely sucked trying to diagnose the damn thing at rehearsal!

Don't be afraid to bump the level of certain blocks above 0db. I usually crank Chorus/Detune & Delays up to 4-6db so they pop out more.

Also when you're home, get familiar with the VP4 Edit software. It's much more intuitive to navigate, but will help you understand the ecosystem better for when you have to tweak parameters on the unit itself.

I only caught defensive fractal vibes from one dude in this whole thread - the rest were just folks making suggestions 🤷‍♀️ wait nevermind Eagle too 😵
I’m only saying if you have hundreds of adjustable parameters how else could you do it? I’m not defending the ui but it’s not really the issue.

Fractal units have a definite learning curve for both the user understanding how to get the most out of it, and the developer in meeting customer needs. I personally still can’t get a pitch modifier to work using the unit without the PC app. I also don’t know why I can’t switch between 4CM mode and regular mode on the fly when switching presets. Why not both? This is the only unit I’ve used that I have to menu-dive to change from 4CM and back. I have about 10 more petty gripes like this, but ultimately it sounds amazing and is somewhat intuitive for most of my use cases.

The VP4 has amazing sounds, but there are definitely some problems with the user experience. Like OP, some people don’t like to menu-dive, and many of us have minor gripes with it.

Ultimately I want HX Effects level routing and control with Fractal quality effects. That’s really not possible right now unless I run both units together. The first company that does this earns my business.
