What Did You Do With Your Guitar(s) Today?

Ordered a fret File Gonna try my hand at Removing those nasty Fret sprouts Fucking Fender MiM
Funny my Revstar, my Godin, My LTD dont have this issue whatsoever, Both my MiM Charvel do
Fixed the DK22 last year (tech did it) now time for the DK24 but this time Ima gonna give it a try
One can say well its the temperature, im saying no its the shit QC from Fender
Its not only the frets sprouting it the Frets themselves are not rounded and polished and thats on Fender not the weather
Pisses me off to no end I mean my Charvel's are not cheap Budget $500.00 guitars, there is no reason that these frets should not be treated properly at that price
they should be like this

Yikes! That's ugly! That neck definitely shrunk due to a change in humidity from when the
frets were put in at the factory relative to when the photo was taken. You can see the lacquer
pulling off from the neck, too. :facepalm

Did you get a Fret End Dressing File, a Fret Leveling File, or a Fret Crowning File, Mike? :idk

I live in such a temperate climate that it’s almost inevitable that I’ll have to do this to a few of my guitars at least once in their life, especially MIM Fender and Charvels. That said, this is basically how I do it:

Same. I bet I have had to do it to more than a dozen guitars in the past 15 years.

I used to have to tweak my truss rods at season changes living in New England but was always lucky enough to avoid fret sprout. Haven't had to deal with either since moving back to Florida, aside from the few days my AC was down and my necks started shifting after day 4 or so, just enough to notice it.

We don't get the pitted hardware and rusted metal from the salty, humid air. :bonk

Climate giveth. Climate taketh away.

I spent a good part of my evening playing with my Aion Andromeda (ODR clone) and JHS NOTAKLON. I’ve only come to know those pedals through their virtual counterparts on L6 and FAS gear, and even though they’re clones, the physical pedals are great additions to my overdrive collection.

Climate stays outside, it’s too hot 11 months out of the year to open the windows. :rofl

Considering this is 19 years old, has only been chugged on, resting my and on that bridge 90% of the time and was never once wiped down after, that ain’t bad!

(The best lighting in here is under my vine plant, that green/yellow/gold is a reflection of it, the tan stuff is the lampshade)

Yup On second thought Ill just bring it to my tech i may not have the skills to do this properly (fret end dressing) and cant find anything cheap to practice on, be about the same price my tech would charge ..so no point really as it only needs to be done once

Good advice from @DrewJD82 and @la szum

:beer

Dropped this down to D Standard.

Or “Motley Tuned.”

Or what Ben Eller calls “Sad But Tuned.” :rofl

Ok, so dropping it to D Standard was a total mistake. It sucked all of the life out of this guitar.

Instead of going back to Eb, I decided to take it all the way to E Standard. Much much better! This thing plays and sounds the absolute best in E Standard.

Any of you ever experience this phenomenon? My Strat plays and sounds best in Eb. My PRS, E Standard. It’s crazy how something so simple can affect the entire mojo of a guitar.
