What Did You Do With Your Guitar(s) Today?

The Suhr Aldrich is supposed to be a tweaked JB.
I’d be interested in checking one out, but it’d have to have a similar resonant frequency or “voice.” Whatever the JB is, it’s perfect in this guitar. It’s just a little hot for my taste.

More mid focus and the top end is different in the Aldrich, much, much tighter pickup while still being high output. I feel like there’s a much bigger difference between them than this video is demonstrating, but I’m also listening an an ipad. :banana

Haha! I listened to that video this week in my PU research. I have a Full Shred in a Charvel
and was thinking about swapping it.

It proves to me, once again, how utterly unreliable those kinds of comparisons are. I can barely
hear any differences. And I know that they can all sound that similar. :idk

Yeah, if I can’t find something that has a similar voice to the JB, I’ll probably just make it work, although I’ll probably snag a nickel-covered SH-4, as this one is a TB-4 and is a pretty tight fit. I threw it in this guitar an a whim and was pleasantly surprise. It just simply works in this guitar. Just wish it wasn’t as hot.

For me, it about the feel and how it reacts to your own playing. YouTube comparisons just can’t replicate that. Sometimes you just have to try for yourself.

I tightened the tension screw for the trem bar on one of my guitars and need to do so on another guitar. Anyways, pulled the Walrus Warhorn Ages out, and tried it out again. I almost traded it away, but didn't follow through because shipping two pedals to New Zealand is too goddamn expensive. It sounds really good once I dialed in the tone better on the Ages side. The Warhorn seems to be more mid focused, and pulling the Ages treble/bass back from noon makes it pretty midrange focused too. Using the two together (Warhorn -> Ages) makes it really honky like a donkey. Making slight adjustments from 12:00 makes it much mroe enjoyable either direction (Warhorn -> Ages or Ages -> Warhorn). I think I might either grab an Eons fuzz (not a fuzz fan, but could use one that's versatile) or another Warhorn Ages for lower gain.

I’m pretty confident that it’s something external and not coming from my home. I’ve gone down the noiseless pickup route but they just didn’t cut it for me. I’m absolutely smitten over these Fat 50’s, so I want to exhaust all options before calling it quits.
Fat 50's are great but the one's I had tended to pickup some stray noise occasionally, but I lived in town then - that's not a contributing factor any longer.

Changed strings on the Les Paul went down to 9.5's, very slight truss rod adjustment and less wind on the pegs and she's staying in tune much better.

Those 10's were pretty dead feeling and didn't sound quite right any longer. It's safe to say I should have changed them months ago, but I've been mostly playing my Suhr.

I played quite a bit today, so they're broken in.

I may or may not have just ordered a black OFR and all black replacement hardware for my white San Dimas. Stormtrooper conversion immanent. :wat
We expect pics when this so-called "conversion" is complete.
Silver is nice and safe, but black is :chef. Slowly has become my favorite.

I’ve been putting off sanding down the Gilmour Strat’s nut for a while now, it was maybe 1.5mm too high. In typical Drew fashion, I didn’t measure or mark anything, just grabbed a file and went to town. I probably went a piiiiiiiiinch too low, but without adjusting the action at all it’s the lowest action I’ve ever had on a guitar without fret buzz and the strings, at pitch, feel like they have zero tension. I’m kinda tempted to just leave it like this because I can practically put Zakk Wylde vibrato on barre chords. :rofl

Just shim it with some aluminum foil. 😉

I had to raise it about 1/8th of a turn on each saddle post, I need some finger meat to make it under the string or I feel naked.

It’s really crazy how much a .mm can do in regards to sustain and overall playability. this guitar has never had a sustain issue of any sort, but with the correct string height legato stuff is ridiculously consistent. I think because I was strangleholding some of the notes closer to the nut before my fingers are just used to the extra force, it takes effort to make a note strop ringing now. :rofl
