Video Games

'Member that arcade game in the '80s where you were this little triangle shooting asteroids? I think it was called Meteor.

Anyway, this is like that but on steroids. Actually, steroids doesn't even cover it. Insane, twin-stick fun from an ex-Housemarque dev and closer to some of their earlier games.

Got Playstation Plus again last year for a decent price.

Played through Sword of the Sea. Gorgeous game and very fun to play even though it doesn't have a whole lot of challenge.

Then for a similar thing I played Sayonara Wild Hearts. This game is like a very trippy 1-1.5 hour playable music video, and the soundtrack is well worth listening on Spotify if you don't want to play the game.

Next up I'll have to probably pick one of my meatier purchases from last year: Metal Gear Solid Delta, Silent Hill F or Armored Core VI.

I was gonna say this just looks like Resogun

Which was a Housemarque game

Ball x Pit addiction became a real problem this weekend. Three days, probably around 8 hours per. It just keeps drip-feeding new ideas at perfectly timed intervals. So insidious. I'm at work today and if I can make it through the DTs, etc. I should be OK. Otherwise, my wife might host an intervention.

Also played some Brotato with my daughter, and it was... fine. Hard to find anything multiplayer that's decent, so (as with Vampire Survivors) we rolled with it for a while. Perhaps it gets better over time?

That was a fun game! I spent a couple weeks playing through it and yeah it would drain a fair chunk of time. I did eventually beat it but no interest in trying to get 100%.

On PS5 too!

I hope this has a really good combat engine. The original Fables were great for their time, but post-Soulslikes, I feel like the action mechanics will have to come up a couple of notches.

Looks great otherwise!

I don't know whether it's MS promoting the new Fable, or whether it was just the "we're not reading everything you type on the internet, honest" algorithm, but the OG Fable remaster (which I didn't know ever happened) popped up on my XBox home screen over the weekend. I couldn't even clearly remember what the original looked like, and I was curious as to "just how remastered" it might have been, so I installed it.

Egads, that game is hard to play today. The "child" hero's appearance - basically a weird man's face bolted onto a smaller body - and the lurching camera... I couldn't stand to play it for more than a few minutes. (As for the lurching... maybe I didn't install, but just streamed it instead. That would be on me, then.)

All of which is to say yes, high time for a reboot.

Just in time. Unlocked the last thing last night.

I'm finally starting to get bored with this now, but OMG the game loop is like crack for the first <embarrassing number, maybe 40> hours or so.

I think maybe I spent too much time optimizing my base, and it did that Vampire Survivors thing where it was briefly thrilling to be so OP, and then suddenly boring. But whereas Vampire Survivors got to that point inside about 3 hours, Ball x Pit entertained for a good long while.

Played the shit out of MIO: Memories in Orbit over the icepocalypse

Great fucking game
I played a bit, too. Not far enough along to know whether I love it or just like it - but your testimonial is a reminder to get back to it.
