The Official TGF Mesa Rectifier Appreciation Thread.

I put the MW and revision A-G in the same pool. One can easily make the case that the MW is the better amp. I still think about grabbing one just because every mode on that amp sounds incredible. It can do everything well.
Im glad the idea of the MW going out of production seem to be false. Appeared to be the thought when the revision launched.

The TLDR for my unnecessarily long post =

There are so many, solo, tremoverb, rev a,b,c,d,e,f,g. Stupid in all honesty but where can I learn?

Anyone have a link or a document that covers all rectifiers and all revisions?

That is what irks me about Rectos, there are so many of them.

I have heard a buddy at their band practice through a single Rec and it was insane. Sounded amazing tbh but which single rec was it? Who knows.

I have personally played two different Dual rectifiers and to be blunt I thought they were garbage. Not sure if it was the cab, or me or the amp but I couldn't get it sounding anywhere near acceptable, ive gained lots of amp dialing experience prior to using them.

Ive owned a JP2C and out of the box it was great. No issues getting a killer sound at all. So I chalked it up to maybe rectifiers just suck ass.

BUT I saw a Killer Killertone video years back where he boosted a dual with a TS9 or something and he had it sounding great. Also, one of my favorite albums was recorded with a triple (Whisper Supremacy)

I've lately been wondering damn, why do some rectifiers sound incredible but the ones I played sound like hot garbage?

The only thing I can come up with is maybe certain revisions are great?

Just curious if theres a database that covers all things recto.
Only because I just got one so it’s fresh: a single rec came in two versions, the OG and series 2. The original had 6L6 tubes, 50 watts and has a solid state rectifier. Series 2 added a “Raw” mode to channel 2 and allows you to swap between 6L6 and EL34 tubes. I think they were less popular simply because “less watts”, the solid state rectifier setting is what I’d likely pick anyway if I had a dual. The Multiwatt came out and they discontinued the single rec because the MW can switch from 50w to 100w.

My brief time with an MW backed this up, basically as good as the rev G but much easier to get volume balance across the channels plus better fx loop. Only got to rough one up in a rehearsal room tho.

I’m a big fan of the MW, but the Rev G beats it for my taste. MW sounds killer in its own right but there’s a few Rev G tones it simply can’t do, and I prefer the character of the gain of the Rev G.

In a lot of respects, the MW is a better amp, especially for anyone playing live. Proper clean channel, proper fx loop, better thought out. Rev G is just THE sound for me though.

Tuesday Tripple MW.

Did you boost it when you played?
I have a Dual MW, and I've never felt the need to boost it. And like others have said, it's quite a versatile amp, with great tones in many flavors.

Whenever someone claims an amp doesn't sound good, my first thought is- If it's used, how old are the tubes? And of course, did you get it cooking? Mine sounds utterly amazing once I get it anywhere past bedroom volume.

Any amp that I can get lost for hours on, just noodling around w/o any effects whatsoever, is a great amp. The DRMW definitely passes that test!

Looks vs like we have a reissue Triple.

I have to wonder how many people are in the market for a new $3700 150watt tube head? Especially since the originals are pretty available used for a good bit less!
