TGF Do Something Challenge Season 7 Week 2

What's with this place? Practically dead with the contributors except for a small, select few...
Some of us probably just enjoy this process more, is my guess? I don't look at it as directly challenging you guys to see who gets the most, it's more of a challenge to myself and how I dedicate my time to the craft of creating something. That's what drives me. But time is always an issue. Not sure about you guys, but I work a full time job with plenty physical demands, which makes it much tougher to come home and focus on music 100%. Not complaining but that's reality. So that means I either have to stay up very late during the week or dedicate my weekends to music making. The latter is more common but that sometimes eats into other responsibilities I have to maintain. :facepalm:grin
But I love making music so it's worth it to me, and I'd rather share it than let it sit dying on a hard drive somewhere.

So this was fun! Today (Oct 3, 2024) I am doing my set of cover songs (Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, U2, Dylan, Led Zeppelin, etc.) and between songs, I decide I want to write one about Piccolomini Crater (an impact crater on the Earth's moon), my birthplace and residency! This song was not pre-conceived in any way. I just decided to improvise at the drop of a hat. 6.5 minutes later, I had this! Now it is very very far from perfect, or even good by many standards, but this was as RAW as it gets! I even left my before song and after song ramblings ;~)) I did minimum EQ/Comp/Mixing and then ran it through a factory default in Wavelab for back of the napkin mastering. There is a 10 second pause after the first chorus finishes (I was literally trying to think of what the 2nd verse should start with), but after that, no such pauses. If you don't want to listen to me sing, you can forward to the 3 minute mark where I go just guitar and cajon for 1:45 or so. Sooooooo much fun just letting this flow and I am pretty psyched with what came out. I have included the lyrics that I sang (typed up after the fact while listening to the recording) but will definitely change some of that. Also, some of the lyrics may not be discernible in the audio, but I tried to type correctly what I was not able to quite get out my mouth correctly on this recording. Of course, I was just making it all up as I went along, so is what it is ;~)) I will update this when I have a release version and replace this with that eventually, but for now, I present to you, the most raw musical creation of my day, "Piccolomini"! #original-song

I'm the sheriff and the mayor
I'm the president elect
On the Piccolomini crater
That's where my life is kept

I'm the nun at the orphanage
I'm the pope who rules the world
Got everything I need here
As long as I got my guitar

Piccolomini craters
Piccolomini times
Piccolomini gazette
I'm the editor of all rhymes

Piccolomini podcast
Piccolomini show
Piccolomini survival
I'm the only one you know

I'm hollywood and radio
The only thing we got
Livin' here in my mind
Watching that world rot

Looks like a blue marble
Destroyin' all their green
Those human beings I tell you
Gotta learn a few things

On the Piccolomini crater
That is where I'm kept
In the Piccolomini crater
That is where I slept

On the Piccolomini crater
We only got one rule
On the Piccolomini crater
We can only suffer just one fool
And that's where I rule

I'm your mother and your father
Cuz I'm the only one here
I'm your sister and your brother
I'm the only one to fear
I'm everyone who lives here
Census tells me one
Is the number I reside in
This crater filled with fun

On the Piccolomini crater
That is where I lay
Covered in shadows every day
Yeah the Piccolomini crater
I'm the only light
On the Piccolomini crater
I'm alone every night

But that's all right

But, Fuzz is right though, it’s hard to etch the time for these, but it’s the coolest part of the forum imo. I hadn’t bothered “writing” in decades and never even attempted recording before @DrewJD82 started this and now, even though it’s tough to juggle the fam and work to try to pump something out, I really look forward to it each week when I can turn shit up and play. Gives me something to stay focused on and makes me commit more time to playing. (y)

OK, squeaking this one in under the wire! Wrote this song on September 30, 2024 (so this past Monday). This take is probably about the 15th take ever of this song. I will be working out some things (including the ending that I am not yet excited about) and will update in the Director's Cut thread when I have further offerings. ;~)) The lyrics are below the image (and BTW, I intentionally spelled Mr. Hide with an i rather than a y for story telling reasons).

<Verse 1>
Ya' see I got this here condition
My doctor says that it's OK
We have got you covered
With the latest pill technology

Studies show that we can fix it
At least make it look like its gone away
We sink our hooks into your system
A customer 'till your dyin' day

<Chorus>
Are you a dealer or a healer
Are you really on my side
Are you a hypocratic oath believer
Or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide

On the pharmacy slide

<Verse 2>
You see I got this here confession
I tend to doubt that you wana' cure
The things wrong in my body
Or my steep consumer curves

I think you wanna' bigger slice of my pie
So you can buy another house
With your pharmaceutical pool
Of money bigger than mickey mouse

<Chorus>
Are you a dealer or a healer
Are you really on my side
Are you a hypocratic oath believer
Or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide

On the pharmacy slide

<Bridge>
What are you tryin' to say
That I should take 5 pills each day
And if the new tests point to right
I'll take another two every night
How can I believe
That your lookin' to help me
When you never once have asked
What I eat or if I sit on my ass

<Verse 3>
You see I got this here decision
I gotta figure out what's best
Do I pop pills in submission
Or put your words to the test

Your tellin' me that could kill me
But do I wanna' be a slave
To the pills your pushin' in me
Providing you revenue till my grave

And that ain't OK

<Outro>
Are you a dealer or a healer
Are you really on my side
Are you a hypocratic oath believer
Or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide
Are you a dealer or a healer
Are you really on my side
Are you a hypocratic oath believer
Or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide
