The Official TGF Mesa Rectifier Appreciation Thread.

There is a lot of wisdom in that video. Not just amp design but for business and life too!
He’s definitely dropped some gold nuggets throughout this video series. I need to catch up but have thoroughly enjoyed all of it.

There’s a certain “grandpa telling us how shit used to be and OMG it’s unbelievable!” quality to these sessions that I find endearing as someone whose grandparents aren’t around anymore.

I wonder if we could hunt Randall down and get him to join now that he has all this free time!

The TLDR for my unnecessarily long post =

There are so many, solo, tremoverb, rev a,b,c,d,e,f,g. Stupid in all honesty but where can I learn?

Anyone have a link or a document that covers all rectifiers and all revisions?

That is what irks me about Rectos, there are so many of them.

I have heard a buddy at their band practice through a single Rec and it was insane. Sounded amazing tbh but which single rec was it? Who knows.

I have personally played two different Dual rectifiers and to be blunt I thought they were garbage. Not sure if it was the cab, or me or the amp but I couldn't get it sounding anywhere near acceptable, ive gained lots of amp dialing experience prior to using them.

Ive owned a JP2C and out of the box it was great. No issues getting a killer sound at all. So I chalked it up to maybe rectifiers just suck ass.

BUT I saw a Killer Killertone video years back where he boosted a dual with a TS9 or something and he had it sounding great. Also, one of my favorite albums was recorded with a triple (Whisper Supremacy)

I've lately been wondering damn, why do some rectifiers sound incredible but the ones I played sound like hot garbage?

The only thing I can come up with is maybe certain revisions are great?

Just curious if theres a database that covers all things recto.

Definitely what I needed there.

So basically for metal I'd want an early Rev F or an early Triple
I promise you, any dual rec or triple will do for metal. Not sure what your playing situation is but I can't really think of many scenarios where a triple is necessary. Keep in mind that tube cost and you'll be paying an upcharge for a 30 plus year old amp.

This is increasingly the case for revision F and earlier. The F becoming coveted has actually devalued the revision G in the market recently and it’s hilarious given how similar they are.

I’ve seen multiple revision G Dual Rectifier and Tremoverb heads <= $1500 recently. Some were $1200-1300, which is a no brainer deal IMO. A 90s recto reissue is damn near $4k by the time taxes land.

agreed like I was saying in an earlier post, you can turn your rev g into a rev f by putting any $100 7 band eq in front of it but that doesn't work the other way around.

I have to stop checking this thread, I miss my tverb.
