The "Going To An Audition" Thread

Still love the guys, though. Good for me to get out of the house and away from
adult responsibilities one night a week. I get to play with others. Hell, being married
doesn't guarantee a guy BJs every night. Being in a band doesn't mean you get to
play only what you want. There's something to be said for compromise and being
a decent hang in life. Better than being a self-absorbed, flaming narcissist. I think.

The singer would do 40 ballads a night if left to his own devices. No
idea what the other guitarist is thinking. :idk

You insisted, JT, and I tried not to subject you to this. Happy now? :grin

:rofl

This was the other one.

It's like Seether and Bro Country had a baby..... and the entire world is left to
ponder the question, "Why?"

Meanwhile, I am crying inside and wondering why we can't just as easily do some Maiden
or Priest or Queensryche...... or fucking some Waylon, Merle, or Willie for God's sake.

Is there really this great song deficit where we need to pluck turds off the Clear Channel
Tree Of Life?

Apparently, there is.

Last Resort or the WWE theme song or get the fuck out! :rofl

The important thing is that you find a balance that makes you happy; you'll always know the tipping point, and I hope that doesn't come for you, since otherwise this seems to be working out.

The best musical collaborations I've had have been people I align with on the philosophy of music, just who we are as players and writers. It's been few and far between. I just refuse to play stuff I think is terrible, so I have no problem just saying, "this isn't for me" and being polite and respectful about it, regardless of how repulsive I find their choices!

Luckily we can take the piss out of one another. :cheers

Been friends for over 20 years now, and seen each other raise our kids.
None of us get too precious about anything, and we can tell one another
a song sucks, and not feel like we are going to be touching someone inappropriately.

If there is stuff I am into an passionate about I have to do it on my own time. I am cool
with that. I don't need to go to a Pickup Basketball game with friends and jack up
3's and hog the ball. Even if I think some of the material we play is wretched, I still
try and be a good sport about it.

No pouting in class! :cheers

The way I used to address the bad song choices was to ask them where do they want to play. Then ask them if they ever see any bands playing there playing songs like that and having dancers on the floor. It isn't about what the people in the band want to play. If nobody shows up to your gigs and you have nobody dancing, you will not get called to play there again. Unfortunately, it is a business and you have to draw a crowd and be the conduit for them to have a good time and spend a lot of money. That is the part some musicians don't seem to get. Musicians also can have a very weird taste in music that the average person hates. They seem to not get that either.
