The Coffee Thread

I got a bag of medium roast beans and forgot they can be oily!
Sounds like Starbucks. All of their medium and dark roasted beans always have an oily sheen to them.

You may probably already know this, but the majority of supermarket (Starbucks, etc.) light roasts are closer to a medium or dark roast in specialty coffees.

aw man! glad to see other coffee nerds here!

daily pull here is a doubleshot of relatively traditional italian espresso via a lelit anna. aint nothin too fanky! can't do light roasts, mself- just no taste for citrusy grassy coffees- and lord god.. too much caffeine xD

I’m an espresso coffee drinker have been all my life.
I have every size Italian espresso coffee pot and two machines.
Both machines cost less than £70 each and both make exceedingly good espresso with a thick crem head .
One I bought in a sale in October 2024 after the one I had for 30 years finally gave up 😢
I tried lots of expensive machines that didn’t come close to my old one.
That I bought in a Woolworth sale for £50.
So decided to take a punt on one of these in a sale for £64.99

It turned out to be brilliant 👍
My daughter gave me these for Christmas 👍

That bloke really winds me up.
Thinks he’s some sort of coffee guru when he’s not .😡
Eh, he actually is. He won the World Barista Championship, owns his own roastery, and is pretty well regarded as one of the leading coffee experts. :idk

hha.. i was gonna say, hoffman kinda does know his shit.

i find him kinda refreshingly non- douchey and open to ideas compared to a lot of the new jack third wave types, and hes at least willing to admit that everything from the most primitive roasts and brewing methods can ve put on a continuum rather than being some nong nong whos like ' its three days past its perfect offgas time, its clearly undrinkable because i wont get all the jasmine, lingonberry, grapefruit and tunafish notes from this artisanally grown natural process coffee roasted by putting it in a room where someone thought of roasting coffee instead of actually roasting it. and it as pure as the driven snow never having even touched a burlap sack, because the would possibly blend another flavor with my perfect beans.'

I bought one of these a few weeks ago.
Then saw his review a few days ago.

Then saw this review .

I know which one I prefer and is more honest.
See what you think??

How is the housewife review "more honest"?
Hoffmans review is super thorough and in the end he gives it a thumbs up for surprisingly good coffee for the money.
He doesn’t use the original cup and says it drips plus other moans.
He also uses an over the top. Bean grinder .
She just uses the machine as it comes 👍
Very straight forward .

its not like the 'housewife' review (sounds like shes from leeds ) isnt good.. i think shes the average user! but via the filter of the world of absolute ether breathing coffee people, jim hoffmans review is a fricken ragingly awesome thing cause dude used $20k machines on the daily and guaranteed his espresso bar at home cost more than my car. he aint wrong that its the grinder.. it really is if youre making world class pulls. but in his kinda posh english way, hes got a sense of humor, and i kinda think, genuinely really appreciates it for what it is. he definitely knows his universe of ridiculous nice stuff isnt grounded in reality for most.. but our guitar gear isnt an affinity strat and a line 6 spider either  dudes an absolute world class pro!

man, i know some genuinely intolerable coffee snobs, and he's def not that bad!
