The Coffee Thread

It's fascinating. We eat with our eyes, too.

A must watch for any coffee nerd:

That was great.

We had a pair of Clovers in the office I worked in a decade ago. They were pretty cool to use. Seemed like mechancal engineering marvels. And were frequently broken. :D

I just ordered an April brewer to try out. The Chemex is great but I drink a lot more coffee with it since I always do a full brewer of coffee which is 400 g of water. Small brews in the Chemex definitely show the paper taste from the filters prominently.

That was my first thought when he showed the parts diagrams. An enormous amount of parts involved for single cup brew.

As an old Aussie living on he other side of the planet ... what on Earth is the Clean - Funky thing about?!?

I have never thought of my coffee as Funky in all my years drinking the stuff. Light - Dark I get.

It's a metric Black & White uses to distinguish their roasts from say a washed (clean) to a co-ferment (funky). Clean would be closer to your traditional coffee whereas funky would be the more modern, experimental, and advanced fermentation/processing methods.

I'll also add that this particular market of coffee can be categorized into the "third wave" of coffee. A very quick watch:

Complete overkill hotel pourover setup I'm putting together for my trip next week, but I love coffee and do not want the nasty hotel crap. Road trip, so shouldn't be too bad to pack.

Will grab a bag or two of good beans on the way out of town and then a couple gallons of filtered water along with some groceries when we get there.

Small electric kettle, this one is only about 8" tall:

Hario Switch with Mugen plastic cone. I had the Switch but got the Mugen last week. Now I have a shatter-proof Switch.

1ZPRESSO JX hand grinder which I haven't used much lately, but works great:

Timemore Basic scale which I use daily:

Enjoying a cup with this setup now and it's fantastic. Super smooth and tasty.
