Hot take: very much enjoying using the III as a fully fledged 3 channel amp :sofa

R2 is a perfectly acceptable lower gain drive tone with knobs set to my desired clean/brootz balance. Particularly nice for lead work over clean rhythm tones when going full fledged lead channel is a bit much. I like it better than hitting the clean channel with a dirt pedal for that sort of thing :idk
I still dabble in R2 sometimes too but it never seems to get incorporated into my actual rig usage. The real kicker is that it does actually sound good and feels nice to play. It has a really pleasing harmonic haze and nice compression that makes it feel juicy to play. R2 is one of the things that does change a fair bit between Mark III versions so it’s possible we might have different realities there. I wish they had found a way to sneak a gain knob in for R2 somewhere.

My lack of R2 usage is more or less an issue of not wanting to add more switches and another cable run from my board to the amp. I should chase down one of those aftermarket footswitches.

I was mostly just dabbling with it before but I finally plugged in the second footswitch and have been having a blast with it

I do think I’ve read that the purple stripe has one of the more unique R2 voicings

It’s been a little while, but as far as I can recall I’m not entirely sure I ever tried R2 at all on my old red stripe :rofl

What? Oh no. Bad tube?

Blah, hope it's just a tube or something simple. Still waiting on fuses to try to figure out mine.

Hopefully just tubes. Fuse is definitely blown, smelled kinda bad so hopefully nothing internal got taken out. Leading up to incident there was something I’d describe as “wooly ocean sounds” in the noise floor. When it blew there was a climbing whistle sound then poof dead.

I have some spare fuses and I should have a full quad of EL34s I could pop in. I guess I should take a closer At the power tubes, not sure if I’ll be able to visibly identify anything or not. Should also have a pair of 6L6s I could pop in if I am able to visually identify a bad actor. I left it at my drummers house thoigh, brought a ton of shit over this morning for recording day and didn’t feel like including that in the haul back I’m tired lol

It’s a really bummer as I was definitely wanting to get some V cleans on the EP. Oh well, the clean guitars are done and are all Mark III now.

Yeah, sucks and would have been a bummer for recording vibes, but as I was just gonna say, it's not like you don't have 5-6 other Marks you can use... :clint

Glad I brought two marks today for sure!!! Lol

I will say though, as amazing as the cleans on older Marks are, there’s definitely some special sauce with the “lonestar cleans” on the V. There was definitely some depression setting in after I was getting the V all dialed in and then it was no longer an option. Original plan was to do L/R V/III

I actually had a 5:25 years ago. Loved it except that my favorite clean and dirty tones (fat and crunch) were on the same channel. Now I like the modes on channel 2 a lot more than I remember.

And a IV (actually two of those at different times). Didn't get along with the IV but didn't know shit about dialing a Mark.

I'd be checking deeper than just popping in another fuse and hitting "Go!"

There's a reason the fuse blew and it was not because a fuse goes bad.

Also, preampers are not high enough voltage to smash a fuse, that is going to be
on the power amp side. If I replace a fuse I am going to have new power tubes on hand,
just in case, at a minimum.

And sorry for the Mark Vs falling by the way side of late. WTF??!! :hugitout

Maybe there is some bad juice in them Colorado power lines. Just sayin'.

Yea I have a set of tubes and 10 fuses so I "could" waste a few testing.

I have a power conditioner and it's in my office so behind a UPS for more conditioning and surge so it should be good but yea WTF.

Oh yeah definitely not just putting another fuse in without some power tube finagling

I’m actually more worried about blowing even more power tubes
