Whalecum to the first annual inaugural bi-centennial weekly Do Something Challenge!

If you're submitting in THIS thread, that means your submission is due by Friday, 1-13-23 at 11:59PM Eastern.

There are 6 drum WAVs and MIDI's at this link- https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m8n1lfbmhh1aqcj/AAD9gUWi7ygakrBcAsjYygbsa?dl=0

This weeks flavors are the following-

Metal- 150BPM https://www.dropbox.com/s/l40m6irxasyntz2/Metal 150bpm.wav?dl=0
Jazz- 164BPM https://www.dropbox.com/s/reg01enasep4ets/Jazz 164bpm.wav?dl=0
Alternative- 95BPM https://www.dropbox.com/s/3ng4j08v07r60lf/Alternative 95bpm.wav?dl=0
Hard Rock- 114BPM https://www.dropbox.com/s/u03vbunlbvdlxl2/Hard Rock 104.wav?dl=0
Rock- 104BPM https://www.dropbox.com/s/khmnytgcaa3gxiy/Rock 103bpm.wav?dl=0
Thrash Metal- 210BPM https://www.dropbox.com/s/et785rq7jowhs0y/Thrash Metal 210.wav?dl=0

FYI- You can change the tempo of a MIDI file in your DAW if these don't sit right with you!

These were from random MIDI's I found in my computer, I didn't add anything to them and you might hear a choked cymbal or something odd in them as I did not listen to them all the way through, I just ran them through appropriate sounding kits in Super Drummer 3 and bounced them down. I will do these for the next round or so while everyone is getting their feet wet, but then I'm going to ween ya'll off the teet.

All submissions equal 1 point. The weekly and bi-weekly challenges will run for 8 weeks, points will be tallied and listed at the end of each week. If you're the winner, you can screenshot it and send it to your wife, husband, best friends, random people on Twitter, wherever you want. Or, if someone has something they would like to submit to a winner; a pack of strings, some picks, a Barbie that's missing an arm and has no clothes, a power supply, a pedal you don't use anymore but it's not worth selling, anything except items that contained bodily fluids, feel free to submit it.

Overall, the point system is to act as a marker for your consistency. The challenge is to push yourself to do a little more than your normal thing, some of you will have to learn how to use a DAW, some of you will have to look at less porn and play more guitar, some are going to have to feel some kind of 'structure' to remain consistent. This is already in the Member Clips subforum, that's why this is a challenge and not just a link to the subforum!

Thank you all who are going to take part in this! I'm looking forward to see the turnout!

Figured out how to get the drums into Logic from the DropBox. At first I had them running as a piano :rofl, but now they're squared away.

Thank You for the selections.

Yeah, you can get some interesting drum tracks dropping piano MIDI's into drum VST's too! Some are actually really cool, if they're holding down some kind of rhythm, the melody over the top just sounds like cymbal play and everything kinda sounds like Carter Beauford, which ain't a bad thing!

Everyone needs to go out and buy something that makes them feel warm and fuzzy inside, once you listen to @Iron1's submission, you're going to feel like you're on the set of Hostel, only it's not a set and it's not a movie, it's real life! I don't even need to hear it yet to know what to expect!

I'll be setting up my XLR snake and drum mics today in preperation. Hopefully I can get the most of my creation done this weekend and finish up on my Tuesday off.

I added a Thrash Metal drum WAV/MIDI, it's a burner at 210bpm, but you can always drop the tempo down if you have the MIDI file. Pretty sure I'm going to use this for my submission this week.

Wow! That was really cool. Creepy and heavy! I love the part at 1:40 where it changed to some liquidy sounding guitar tone. And the other dynamics of the song with the guitar breaks and solo drums. Good stuff!

Thanks dude! Dig the detailed feedback from you, too. Hope that's the way it is for everyone involved. :headbang

Ha! Thanks dude. Something about B standard just does it for me. I love my 6 string guitars, but for some reason the 7s bring out the darkness.

Wow - strong first post!! Welcome to the forum - hope you stick around.

Loved your song - and playing. Was that fingerpicking in standard tuning? Sounded great and really pretty. I also thought the solo really fit the song well too. And that little run at 2:38 was awesome!
