Speaking of the drip; Axe III incoming.

I need Marshalls in my life. It is incomplete without them. If I had to be stuck with an Helix my life would
be empty, and I would feel dead inside, and have no use in continuing to live. Yes, they are that bad. :facepalm

One man's good enough is another man's over my dead body.

The more I use the FM9, the more I like it. However it’s also made me appreciate some things in Helix even more, because of how well a lot of it holds up. The Helix is no slouch, for sure, and if I could only have one, it would be a very tough decision. Thankfully it’s a decision I don’t have to make!

I’m gonna force myself to choose between them. I don’t have to, but it’s just a waste if I don’t. What will happen is I’ll prefer one, and that one will get 90+% of the playing time and gigs and the other will literally collect dust and get pulled out twice a year. No sense in doing that like I have with SO many other pieces of gear that are collecting dust here…

Dude, the standard thing is an FM9T or AxeIII, coupled with a Stomp or StompXL.

I might know a guy with a gently used OG FM9

If you have the space and budget, Axe 3 is the best if you want to play with all the new toys. Otherwise you do the waiting game for trickle down updates. For gigging the FM9 probably makes the most sense. It's got the best price to power to utility ratio.

This religious immersion deserves a sound track

(p.s.: these tones are pre-cygnus era)

If I were to buy now, I'd go with the FM9 Turbo and call it a day.

The cost of the Axe-Fx 3 + FC-12 is really high in the EU, 3905 € total + shipping incl. Finnish 24% VAT. That translates to ~$4190 USD. The FM9 is 1510 € less and does about 90% of the things the Axe-Fx 3 does. I have lamented the high cost of the FC stuff before, but it's a bit absurd that they are nearly Helix LT money for a proprietary "dumb" controller where the Axe-Fx does all the heavy lifting.

I only have the Axe-Fx 3 Mk2 rig because I bought it used for about FM9 Turbo money before the FM9 was released in EU. While it's nice to enjoy the latest and greatest features and have all the bells and whistles, it's not a conveniently portable rig in the sense that I can just throw it in a suitcase on a whim and go.

When I got it originally, I was a bit frustrated with playing block tetris on the FM3. This was a bit before Fractal released an update for the FM3 that reduced CPU usage so that made block tetris less of a regular occurrence.

I thought I would use all the dual amp, cab etc features more but I don't, so most of the time the capabilities of the Axe-Fx 3 are wasted on me. I'll stick with the Axe 3 for now but will probably look at the more compact and lower power units for whatever next gen product Fractal makes.

I have the Axe III MKII Turbo, and the FC-12 MKII. I really love them both. But I think for gigging, I will continue to use tube amps. So an FM9 is certainly on the cards at some point.

I'd like both, basically!

I have both the Axe-FX III and FM9. The Axe gets played at home and the FM9 gets played live. It is great because the FM9 weighs less and is much easier to cart around than the Axe-FX and the FC6 pedal board. Also, I only have to setup and tear down at the venue. I can leave the FM9 in the road case at home.

My take on the Fractals for live use-

FM9 if using w/ no outboard pedals. The footprint is big enough with a couple expression pedals that anything else is going to be taking up some stage room. I ultimately decided to leave my FM9 rig as it is, I might throw a Freqout on the board, but the pedalboard I built for it is 32” long and there’s maybe an inch of wiggle room. A 3’ board isn’t always going to be stage friendly and stacking things UP would be more logical….and then you’re looking at stepping on pedals 8” off the ground and above the FM9. No taints.

AxeFX if using outboard gear, because it can all sit in a rack offstage with an FC6 at the front of a stage.
