I think they did fine
Obviously they made what they think can sell and the fact they sold out in a day it worked for them

It’s right between full ToneX and Kemper player price wise

And I mean the app is way better than IK
Fx wise it very similar to Kemper

So overall I think they did a good job IMO
Agreed. It's just what could have been for me. How cool if it would have had their library of effects. It would truly be an all in one

And I get that would have made it pricier but even if it was Kemper Player priced I'd much rather have the NC with NDSP effect library

NRE's

Tooling up a new product of this type - enclosure, covers, buttons, caps, LED lenses, packaging and insert dies, label dies, artwork, etc. - is $200K+ easy.
Add in the up front labor and materials costs for engineering, prototypes, marketing, promotions, etc.

What's the net profit on each unit? How many you gotta sell just to break even on NRE's?

Can you keep the lights on during all of that while you wait for profits to start rolling in?
I am a development executive. I have been doing this for decades. NRE for a brand new product is generally in the 1 to 5 million dollar range depending on the complexity of the product and takes about 2 years from funding to the start of sales.

For a follow on product that sticks with the same architecture as a previous product, 200k might do it.

In the NRE, you have to include prototypes, environmental and electrical certification, mechanical tooling, production testers, package design, artwork, marketing, show costs, and advertising just off the top of my head.

Where I see companies drop the ball, is the market research and business case development phase. Companies always seem to want to use the "If you build it, they will come" method where they are led by little angles and little demons standing on their shoulders whispering in their ears.

This is particularly precedent in smaller companies. Larger companies tend to ndo more up front work

I am a development executive.

I worked for an OEM and we had solid agreements with the few major factories we dealt with in Asia.
The challenge was having so many different clients, each with their own experience level on how it works.
And project sizes and costs were all over the map.

JBL Professional tooled up an entire commercial in-ceiling product line (huge deep drawn steel back-cans)
including all of the accessory bracket SKUs, all at once. Our quote package to them had to have been a
couple dozen pages.

Then the next day I'd be working with Event on developing a single 2-way monitor which would be a single page

The real weird part with amortization came with ownership during the pay-off period.
Customer wanted to own all of the tooling outright with the initial PO.
We obviously couldn't agree to that so negotiations would always be 'interesting'.

You know what? If Mr. DSP rang my doorbell with some money in his hand and a free QC, and asked me to shoot some video clips... I'd snatch it out of his hand in a split second and buy myself a little camera.
Don't be so hyper- and hypocritical. Use your brain, watch what seems to be valuable information or good entertainment, and ignore everything else (and Glenn Fricker, he's really out of the question).

You being snarky is 1) totally acceptable, 2) somewhat to be expected, and 3) an immense part of your unique charm.

Company representatives should be a bit more tactful.
Especially when they don't know what they are talking about. :facepalm
Again, not in this thread. If you're interested in something about Line 6 specifically—instead of tossing assumptions about our company practices around as fact—I have an FAQ.

Out of curiosity, what should Rabea being doing in order to not be a cringe puppet toolbag or whatever?
In my opinion, the theatrics of the “performance” are just cringy. Sure, everyone makes faces when playing guitar, but the whole thing looks forced and overdramatized. It may be fine for a live show, but by himself in a basement for the sake of a YouTube video? Sorry, but it’s just ridiculously over the top IMO.

I guess I’d feel differently if it hadn’t been filmed in his studio and was more of a music video with a full band. It just comes off as a kid with his toys in his basement.

Dude, you could have shot me a PM if privacy is that big a deal for you.
And I was proposing a hypothetical situation in a discussion about hypothetical products.

A simple, "Line6/Yamaha doesn't do it that way", instead of the wise ass reply, would have worked.

You got lots of likes and laughs out of it though, so there's that.

It's not about privacy—it's about not continuing to stink up a competitor's thread. My FAQ is just as public as here; you'll find that Line 6 may be the most transparent company in MI. We share a lot, sometimes to our detriment.

But yes, I've been a wise ass on gear forums since the 90s.

I like Henning. :bag
I like that Henning doesn’t give a flying shit. He doesn’t edit out his clams and isn’t afraid to give you the truth about a product, even if it means that he won’t get an opportunity to work with a particular manufacturer again.

That said, his videos tend to be a little too long for my attention span, but I totally respect him as a “gear tuber.”

The same. Nothing personal at all on my end to be sure.
I'm just too old and lived through too much of this stuff to have someone imply that I'm talking out my butt.

P.S. When you guys gonna issue the 25th anniversary faithful reproduction of the OG Flextone 1x12?
Talk about an SKU that would sell boatloads!!!

That's fair. <fist bump>

I will totally talk about that in a non-Neural DSP thread! ;)

Do you like his "Rant" videos ?

Man, it’s really funny watching all the tribalism over a bunch of YouTube gear pushers. 😂
