If it bugs roll your eyes and laugh

To be clear I'm well past the point where any of this stuff gets stuck in the craw.
My posts are a figurative way of rolling eyes.

And I can be ignored just as easily if I'm bugging anyone.
It's all just passing the time chatter.
If anyone had anything better to do they'd be doing it. :rofl

I don't need this.

I don't need this.

I don't need this.

I absolutely do not need this.

(And also: a new iPad with a USB-C port.)

You already have the full QC though. It's not like the QC itself isn't portable (albeit not pocket size). What would you gain from this?

I really wish they would offer both.

Doing it over WiFi within their system is great for me because I don’t have a laptop I can use for managing it, but knowing I wouldn’t be able to access anything if their system was down is not good.

Agreed. Im for sure in the Why Not Both camp, but it wouldn’t preclude me from buying their device(s).

I mean there are two basic scenarios this is an issue:
  1. They go out of business and the cloud is permanently shutdown
    • If they go out of business I’m moving to a new platform and not too terribly worried about carrying on indefinitely on a dead platform. The device will still function in the interim.
  2. There is a temporary outage or maintenance window
    • There is only an “issue” if you happen to need to do a complete restore from backup during the maintenance window. And you can restore without a backup, so in this extreme scenario you can still get it back to factory default and usable, you just can’t restore from your backup.
Wireless backups to the cloud are brilliant. (Every device should do this) It just shouldn’t be the only option. 👍

This is the first worldliest of all first world problems coming at you, but:

My QC is semi-permanently tethered to my home studio with a zillion cables: XLR outs x2 to monitors, 1/4" outs to other monitors, send and 2x returns to a mini audio interface for iPad processing, send to power amp and guitar cab, USB to PC, guitar in, mic in, MIDI in, MIDI out, PSU... Removing it to use it for anything else, and then getting it to back where (and how) I need it for recording, etc. is... non-trivial.

What I really want is another QC, but I balk at the idea of having about $3K tied up in QCs (to make no mention of my other modelers. Gulp.) I was hoping NSDP would announce something more similar to the QC, but with a reduction in sticker shock.

I think the NC is really cool, and it almost triggers that "so neat I bought it on principle" reflex. If I were the sort of guy who profiled amps all the time, it probably would. Right now, it mainly appeals to me on basis of its size and ability to run on USB-C power. This and an iPad running Jam Origin would tick a lot of boxes for me. And I'd be able to leave my QC where it is. :)

Most pro cloud hosting services offer some sort of time window for registered users to react accordingly if a paying client goes belly up overnight.

Is it possible that the lack of choices for effects is just a far too subtle marketing stunt?

Overhead in Finland a few months ago:
Hey, lets make a vacuous set of promo videos, display a large statue at NAAM that says "Soon", release the product with an obvious gap that we have algorithms ready to fill, and get more social/press activity from the community outrage ,and then get even more press with the announcement of the "fix" which is shipping "Soon"

Right, but when it’s a closed system and you don’t have a way of exporting, hosting, or accessing that data outside of the system that doesn’t help.

It would be stupid marketing, but the "resolution" would make the NC a killer product. All it would take is making (at least) one of those pre effect blocks capable of loading any block type - including another capture - and adding a few alternate algorithms for each post effect.

Also recommended: allow one or both switches to toggle an effect on and off.

It would be great if they would be transparent about if the NC will get updates and if that is a possibility

Worse thing is you return it?
This was my thinking yesterday. But the angel on my other shoulder was all, "Will this really make you happy? How often do you even play guitar outside the studio? Shouldn't you pay down that HELOC balance..." She's such a pain in the ass. :D

There's no reason to assume they're intentionally hiding anything. They may have a roadmap, but going public prematurely would be poor form - for any company, but especially for them. Two months late and we'd crucify them. :D

Anyway, the biggest issue with the "fixes" I proposed above is they'd likely undermine the "gapless switching". I'd make that trade in a heartbeat, but I'm not sure everyone else would.

What do you mean? The cloud contacts you and gives you 24-48 hours to download everything.
You now have all of your content and your unit and editor.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t think they will add a 808 or drive because of the fixed block
They could add another mod
Delay or verb in the future but I bet they kept the 5 fixed fx

Apparently they’re very afraid of loosing buyers on QC. That’s also a conclusion. Line 6 gives us many choices and it can actually be quite a frustrating decision. But they want us to choose, give us many different products. I don’t think Neural is there, at that point where they’d want the user to have a hard time between the QC and (for example) a half QC.

But there's really nothing tying their hands in this regard. It's not like Kemper where they silkscreened MOD DLY REV right over the buttons. If NDSP eventually releases another revision of the OS that allows you to select different effects in each of these slots, it'll just be a matter of updating their owner's manual.

Of course, whether the hardware is capable of doing much more is anyone's guess.
