Word on the street is that the Multi Watt Rectifiers are discontinued. Enjoy them while you still can!

Super versatile and still sounds killer IMO.

Won't ever be selling it.

What are they being replaced with?

Also, I’m not super versed in Rect lingo, as I’ve only really gotten into them digitally in the last year or so, but is “multi-watt” the 50/100 switchable ones?

I’ve had this joker firmly in my 2025 plans:

This is finally a Gibson move that I can’t get behind. Ditching a modern recto and only having the upcoming RI available is dumb imo. Unless there’s a new recto update coming down the pipeline eventually

wonder if the new 2 channel one is a replacement in the line or a limited run thing, with a new flagship on its way.

Multiwatt is amazing for how much amp you get. 2 channel modes are amazing for THE recto sound but you sacrifice a lot of versatility.

That's the one. Current Rectifier model. Gone. Don't know what is replacing it.

I doubt the Multi Watt is just being totally shuttered in favor of the Reissue.

Maybe I'm wrong, but if I had to bet, I'd say the MW will be replaced with something more in line with what it is, while the Recto RI will be its own thing.

This is what I think is happening. They’re in a re-issue phase right now, bringing back the two amps that made a name for the company, the IIC and the Rev F rectifier. Once they’ve moved past this phase in a couple of years, I think we’ll see a new wave of amps from them, and probably including more of the modernization we’ve seen with various amps including MIDI and CabCloneIR features. I’m still surprised we haven’t seen a mini VII or an updated Mini Rec with a CabClone IR, I’d think those would sell amazingly well as they are some of the top selling low wattage amps out there.

I do think it will be some time though, they’re going to let these reissues breathe a bit on the market, I feel.

Not very familiar with the Rectos but I think the mirror panel is a poor design, can't see shit on the Silver Jubilee.
The Rev F Reissue is the only available option now?

Is anybody really surprised though? Kinda what we all expected would start happening. I'm just curious to see what models will be left after all is said and done.

Wish I didn't have to sell mine earlier this year due to finances. I wasn't actually playing it that much but still. It was my favorite sounding version of all the Rectos by far. However, I found the thing to be way too damn loud at 100 watts. Would be cool if they made a new version of the Single Recto that's 50/25 watts switchable.

I personally never understood the multi watt recto, reading this thread I may be alone…

Rectos do not sound good when you get the power section cooking, or at least they don’t sound like what most think of as a “recto sound.” Having a high wattage box size and cost, plus the IMO worthless feature of lowering the wattage just never made sense to me.

I get some people wanting a lunchbox version. I get the 100-150 watt versions. I don’t get the multi watt.

I think they should kill the multi watt and just have a modern 3-channel dual and/or triple.

I mostly like the MW because it's voiced different than the other 3 channel. I don't care about the wattage switch

I also liked the MW more but it was for the cleans. They upgraded to the Lonestar clean channel for the Roadster, Road King 2, and MW Rectifiers, then carried over the same preamp circuit to the Mini Rec and the Rectoverb 25. It’s an ideal clean channel IMO, especially with a slight compressor or treble boost out front. Plus being able to select the tube rectifier for the clean channel but leave the heavy channels in silicon diode rectification is simply awesome.

The high gain tones, specifically the more modern ones, can sound weird if you saturate the power amp on a recto. The clean and mid gain tones can sound VERY good though.

The reduced wattage is more about expanding the flexibility of the amp to more adequately cover those decidedly non-recto tones.

I own and love the revision G - but the MW def brings more to the table especially when you need to cover more ground than your standard scooped high gain recto thing.

I think the Multi Watt is a really good amp, but yeah adding multiple wattage settings was... ill advised as far as features go in an amp like that. I don't know of anybody who used those switches.

As far as the poweramp comment goes. I mean, that's how all Rectos are. The Recto wasn't designed for the poweramp to be pushed. It's a preamp-centric amplifier and always has been. The poweramp is intended to operate clean, like the amp in a hi-fi stereo system. The reason the 150 watt Triple Recto was built in the first place was specifically because the Recto's no-negative-feedback poweramp design made the amp break up earlier than it would otherwise have, just the nature of tube power sections with no negative feedback, so adding an extra 50% output power meant they could get back to pushing as much air as standard 100 watt amps (read: 100 watt amps with more standardized amounts of negative feedback) without breaking up.

But still, nobody bought the Multi Watt for it's multiple wattage settings. People bought them because they are an awesome version of the Recto that even if you only count the Red and Orange Modern modes, the amp sounds sound great. And they do. The amp's other six modes just mean the amp has a ton of versatility if you need it.
