NAD: Mesa Dual Rectifier Multi-Watt

I'd be afraid I'd screw it up. (I'd want to keep it for when/if I get tired of the blacked-out look.)

With all those raised diamonds, Idk how you could scuff it up properly, and get right into all those little corners. Paint applied to chrome won't stick.

And if you get it wrong, it'd probably be a hot mess to fix.

If you're never planning on using it again..., well that's different.
well it can be done tbh. The plate itself looks like it is a polished aluminum piece, so you can definitely lay a few coats of black paint

Because:
1. reversible, to be able to make everything back. Using all original parts.
2. To make a good paint you need to remove the face plate anyway and it is not very easy and quick
Oh for sure it would be easier to buy from Mesa but I was more so saying this if they were truly out of stock

I’d like to keep the original. Just wanted to look into the optional replacement. I’ve read up on the replacment procedure. Looks like the most common way is to heat up with a heat gun to loosen the 3M tape, so not exactly an immediate swap as I thought.

I can’t deny that the OPs amp looks great in black though.
yes, I used hairdryer and started on one side slowly detaching it. To be on the safe side I wrapped all edges with heavy duty aluminum foil to protect the tolex.
Under the plate they used 4 pieces of 3m double sided tape, very strong one.
Here is same new tape Mesa send me:

I actually ended up using other 3m tape (from Homedepot) that is something like a thin foam with glue sides. This is to be able to remove the faceplate easily

Quick update: So it is week #4 and I can't stop playing this amp.
I don't know why I didn't bought it much earlier.:bonk
I'm still stuck on red channel and so far has no intention to move to others :facepalm
The amp is very fun to dial and it reacts to knobs way differently than some others, primarily comparing to EVH 5153. Very interesting to discover how gain + presence + highs together are affecting the sound. Like add more gain and it adds more bass too.

So far I'm very happy.

Another observation is this crazy amp is a perfect match for guitars with emg. I'm now feeling a scratch to outfit all my guitars with 81+85. It is an instant killer tone as on many metal records I love. I can't believe it sounds so tight and full and literally a wall of guitar sound without mud whatsoever.

I’ve been wondering how EMGs would fit my playing with the Recto.

I’ve been enjoying mine as well. I’ve been stuck on Vintage Mode on the Red Channel myself.
