Randall Smith Gone From Mesa Boogie/Gibson?

I just don't like the tactile feel of ESP guitars. I don't know if it's the poly or what, but they feel like plastic toys. I've owned several from E-II, to LTD Elite to EC-1000. They were/are all good playing instruments however.
It’s been too long for me to make an informed decision…. The LTDs I’ve owned definitely had that plastic feel. I had a limited run horizon II MIJ under the “esp standard” branding that existed prior to E2….. that definitely held up with nitro guitars… not sure if it was nitro or just a more thinly applied poly finish like early PRS… anyway… regardless… definitely one that got away…

I have no idea what you are referring to. Poly?

Poly is not a game changer for me - it depends on how thick they lay it on I think. My Majesty is poly and it does not feel like a hunk of plastic, but I have played guitars where it DID feel like it was a cheap shitty thick plastic finish.

The two LTD’s I own have a body and neck finish that’s either wood or satin. The LTD EC-1000 Deluxe I tried was the sunburst with Seymour Duncan’s that looked great in photos. But in person it seemed gaudy and yeah plastic like. Sent that puppy right back!
