New speaker day

Man a Redback / V30 mix in a 412 is really worth trying for high gain. Unless you like super warm, smooth and polite tones that is.

thats my gripe with my greenback, its just too gritty, kind of brash and just not warm enough for what i tend to go for. maybe for 70s kind of lower gain rock with a big condenser it could work. if the red and creamback have that same kind of top end im not sure im gonna dig

Never tried a greenback but always avoided them based on the descriptions I hear….

Would not describe either cream or red as brash or gritty at all lol

Enjoy the speaker. I’ve read a lot about how the Redback mixes well with other Celestions. I’m kind of curious myself. Also kind of surprised to see Dopapod mentioned. The guitarist hung out with my circle of friends back when he first joined that band. Didn’t know they were still together.

Greenbacks are for older amps that are characteristically dark....like some old Marshalls. Perfect for those.

Probably great for Bogner type amps too! Not that I know. Just, reading.

That’s awesome!!! Rob is such a beast and seems like a super down to earth dude

I’ve been seeing them for close to 10 years now, they took a year or 2 hiatus around 2018 I think? But they’ve been killing it… on their final tour now… reason for calling it quits is economics/feasibility… huge bummer they’re a fantastic band :(

Hey @RaceU4her speaking of Dopapod, lotus was playing the same two nights as them here in Denver, on Saturday after lotus Tim Palmieri rushed over to the venue Dopapod was playing and sat in m, I believe you’re familiar with Tim

This must be a thing. My MIL sent me a Redback for Christmas 2 years ago. It’s still sitting in its box because I love the 12L so much. One of these days though…

Yeah, very talented guy. I remember him nonchalantly picking up a beat down guitar and busting out jazzy-fusion lines out of nowhere, when everyone else at that time was either playing indie rock or metal.

I’m curious to hear how you put the Redback through its paces. I saw some Zilla YouTube videos of the speaker that caught my ear.

Sick! I have Greenbacks and a Creamback, never tried the Red. I need to try all the 'backs. Happy 33rd.

FWIW The Greenbacks I have can get very raspy with my EVH Stealth. I turn the presence down to about 1 or 2 at the highest.

Ha thats awesome. Sounds like it's time for an additional cab :cop

I meant to run the thiele with the evm along with the 2x12 at the same time but got distracted and ran out of cranking time

I spent most of my time last night running it with my Badlander (which currently has 6L6s in it). Its pairing really really well with that amp. I think this has been my favorite speaker configuration I've tried with the badlander so far. I tried my Mark's through the cab as well and they sounded awesome, but I definitely feel like the badlander had an extra special synergy there

Thanks dude! Still interested in trying the greenbacks at some point, I've definitely been broadening my speaker horizons much more in recent years

Dopapod just played the little club here but it was sold out. tim i believe lives in my town, hes always playing one of the clubs or bars with any random group of dudes, i know ive seen the dopapod guitarist at a few jams. the new club that just opened is awesome and its basically only jam bands, they do sweet vids too

The Cream H is bright and cutting. It pairs well with a V30 but it'll be a very aggressive cab. The Red has a bigger footprint and less high highs. It seems to blend better and handles high gain like a champ.

If you're looking for warm though, H speakers are probably out altogether. The Cream M could be worth trying, but it's not massively different to a G12M greenback really.

This is what I have in my ‘68 Pro Reverb.

maybe ill give the red a shot. i have a g12H30 im not much a fan of either for the same reasons as the greenback. The G12-65 is my favorite celestion at the moment which is kind of opposite the greenback in every way
