Neural DSP - Cortex Control beta, CorOS 2.2 released

I don't think so, maybe they decided to try Fractals' approach?

I think the bug list is huge and way too early for beta.
They do feel the pressure from TMP.
That’s the first thing i
Noticed the bug list and known issues was almost the same length
Odd

I’ve got no gripes with them doing a public beta, this is probably the only way they could get themselves out from under their own thumb for a bit, by giving the customers what they’ve been asking for while developing it. My only negative outlook towards all that was showing it at NAMM nearly a year ago and think it would have been better to just release it instead of the usual NDSP media parade, but like I said, the progress is more important than the griping.

I don’t think anyone knew about the TMP when they announced the beta release date.
Welllll… the public didn’t, but are we sure NDSP didn’t? Seems that others in the industry knew about the TMP for a long while, like DI’s post he later deleted. I suspect all the big players knew the TMP was coming.

Perhaps all of their private beta testers are currently too busy shilling the Tone Master Pro.
Moreover, you’re going to find bugs way faster when you have the entire user base testing the software over a handful of private beta testers.

That said, being a beta, use at your own risk.

For real. I like making fun of NDSP as much as the next guy here, but, this is... good?

That’s entirely possible and wouldn’t be surprising to me in the least bit. It would make more sense in that light than Neural’s closed beta history, I’m just trying to be less cynical these days. :rofl

Local backup? Isn't that something people have been really pushing for and NDSP has consistently said no?
I don't know if NDSP said no but I do know that the defenders said no, they said embrace the cloud. I guess they don't know what the hell they are talking about after all :grin

@mbenigni I think the pendulum is slowly starting to swing toward more QC positivity. Dumb stuff like the way they structured their announcement about the plugins will continue to be clowned, but they're really close to notching everything it was promised to have at launch.

Kind of a shame because they used up 2.5 years of the life of the device just to get to that starting line, but they'll earn all sorts of forgiveness if they can show content growth/expansion beyond that.

I'd say modeler users, at least the ones active online, are pretty fickle and quick to jump on the "latest and greatest" new device. The regular stream of updates from Line6, Fractal etc keeps people with their chosen device but at some point there's just not that much to add before a new-fangled device is due.

Even if NDSP get the editor and plugin support out this year, that still only means they are at the starting line for the promised feature set. And still don't have a freakin' graphic EQ that looks and works like one.

Then all it takes is for a next gen Line6 or Fractal unit to release, or maybe even just some good Tone Master Pro updates, or a cheaper "Tone Master Pro Junior" to be released for people to forget all about the QC.

To their credit, they're still the only unit that combines profiling and modeling, and neither Fractal nor Line 6 has indicated that they want that to change. Tonemaster - even cheaper - is also limited to modeling.

It's a unique value prop along with the touchscreen, and that - not updates, plugins, or any one piece of content - will likely always be the reason for its appeal.

That being said, I think Line 6 - of the big players - is most uniquely positioned to bust up even that appeal by offering a refreshed UI, compact and great-sounding current/next-gen modeler that maybe, kinda, sorta would have profiling capabilities of some sort.
