NDSP Quad Cortex

I was in a GC recently with an updated TMP on the floor for demoing and it's......better?!?

Was kinda impressed if I'm being honest. Maybe it was them getting the impedance curves sorted out a couple of updates ago, but yeah.....
Ya I think , I saw a vid the other day that they had updated the Freidman and in the clips it definitely sounded better than launch

Generally speaking I don't think it means much when artists jump around from thing to thing. While I thought it was interesting, I didn't think it was all that significant when Plini, one of my favorite artists, went from Fractal to NDSP.

I do think it's more significant and interesting when an artist goes from Fractal to NDSP and back to Fractal like Aaron did.

I've heard talk of some artists having issues with QC's breaking. I haven't heard specifics about what exactly is breaking though. I also haven't seen much here or other places so idk. Anyone seeing anything significant as far as reliability is concerned?

I don't think anything different than what has been already documented? It seems to have become more stable.

As I've mentioned before they have always responded promptly whenever I've had issues. But I could see how I'd have a sour taste if I was playing live and it crashed. No amount of overnight shipping can fix that 😂

I've heard a lot of the early artists received free units in exchange for promoting them in their rigs, but many of them quickly jumped over to other gear. Probably back to Fractal lol. Mike and Aaron Marshall first ones coming to mind.

It's interesting that almost nobody uses the Fender TMP. We've seen artist demos and some playing around with it, but nobody tours with it. QC at least has some touring adoption. Fractal, Kemper, and Line 6 have been mainstays for a while.

They have a list of endorsees up on their main product page, and each person has a blurb detailing how they use it - which is cool and transparent.

I wish them luck. They got killed on shipping with obvious sonic weaknesses and a too-high price point.

Now, however, that you can get them all day gently used for between $1000-$1100 on Reverb and the firmware has matured a good bit.....I think it's a more compelling proposition.

Do you mean Fender? I'd take a swing at $1k for a mint TMP.

@Jarick Yup. You could always make an offer on a TMP if you're so inclined. The sold listings indicate nobody's really buying them for more than $1100.

QC seems like it is big in England/Europe.

Most likely it hit the market in a spot where most people interested in a complex modeler already have one they like. To me the Fender doesn't really have any advantages of its own to say switch from a QC, Helix, Fractal etc.

About 5 months ago someone was posting the board they built for the Spiritbox dude, he was using Fractal then. Also saw someone upload a crazy ring modulator preset a couple months ago that Spiritbox dude worked into their live set.

Found the board vid-

Oh shit, I swear down I didn't see that before saying so!

I haven’t checked any of NDSP’s socials for probably over a year now, but the first year this forum was open I was posting screenshots of all the units getting returned due to the Blue Lights Of Death or when it started making tractor noises out of nowhere and there were a lot. I just saw an issue with the BLOD pop up on Reddit last week where several other people stated they had the same issue, but I wouldn’t use those several posts to gauge their current output as they could all have had issues in those first couple of years.

So far I’m getting some great tones out of the QC thanks to Amalgam captures. Still working on getting the ones of my own amps together. Finding it hard to put the time in lately sadly. Anyway in the meantime I wanted to try it in a band situation so grabbed a couple of Plexi style amp captures from Amalgam to test with and it’s sounding and mostly feeling better than any digital unit for me so far. I now prefer the QC over the Helix and Fractal as far as raw amp tone especially in the feel department.I had tried the QC before when I borrowed my friend’s but I really didn’t get to try it like I wanted plus not sure if new updates have been done to the amps tones and or cabs but yeah much better this go around.

Still not crazy about some of the shenanigans of some of the leadership of the company but been there before with other digital units and some analog gear for that matter. I used to let that bother me more than I do know.

The Amalgam captures are great.

I'm about 2 months into QC and my only real complaint is the absolutely wonky PC Editor. It's super unstable and crashes constantly plus the file management is pretty bad as well (but still not as bad as ToneX but super close).

FWIW - Cortex control (windows) has been stable for me. I use it all the time and it's never crashed.
