NDSP Quad Cortex

QC: The mobile app lets you browse and download presets and captures, but the download must be completed on the unit itself. Additionally, you can’t edit presets directly from the app. While the Cortex Control desktop software allows for preset editing, it doesn’t provide access to the Cloud.

Kemper: The mobile app allows you to edit rigs directly, but it doesn’t provide access to the global rig library.

I wish these units would combine.

100% agree!

The Kemper mobile app is REALLY DAMN GOOD! It's super easy to use AND it's really stable unlike the computer app. But not being able to select rigs is a real drawback.

Meanwhile if I want to download something for QC I have to look it up on the mobile app (or website), then add it to my files, then go onto the QC to download the file via the cloud. It's a little weird and that extra step is annoying.

I also appreciate that I can connect to my Kemper Player via Bluetooth. Being able to play backing tracks from my phone, or a metronome, is phenomenal.

Fyi I think you could just get a Bluetooth dongle and connect it to the QC effects loop? That's what I've done with my axe fx 3. Then you can play backing tracks through your phone

Good thing that QC isn’t taking a backseat to plugins. Almost thought NDSP was going to do their usual ‘say one thing, do another’ approach with it after PCOM came to be, but they’ve done nothing but prove me wrong! Those QC updates have been astounding!

I dunno. Current QC owners honestly seem happy with getting one amp and a small handful of esoteric pedals after a year of development.

I wouldn't be, but I think they've already lost all the people who have expectations on that level.

I know us FAS fans love constant updates but it's not needed . The QC has just about everything you'd need. Id say everything but obviously it's not the case for everyone.

Are more amps and effects cool? Absolutely, and when you compare it to the competition, it is lacking. But in its current state, its more than capable. Add in the capture side of things and it somewhat covers missing amps. I know a capture isn't the same as a full model but QC owners can play a Badlander equivalent on their QC, something people have been wishing for since the Badlander launch in the fractal world.

I feel we are a tad too harsh on the QC at times. They deserve the eye rolls but it is a good sounding device with plenty going for it.

Our boy Euge is even using one live. It can't be all that bad 🤣

To be fair, it probably won't be available to use on a Quad Cortex until then either given that it's at least three major firmware updates away.
Oddly enough I just could not gel with the Kraken amps
I tried everything because I have heard great demos
But to me they were very generic and dark and farty
The Gojira and SLO were heaps better in both feel and tone
Maybe I did something wrong ?

I say this a lot, but it's important to separate being harsh on the QC from being harsh on Neural DSP. The latter consistently makes misleading statements and puts their foot in their mouth, then compounds it with gaudy marketing videos for the most inane stuff. Drag that all day.

The QC, on the other hand, has everything a lot of people would need. For me, it's missing synth effects as well as esoteric reverbs and delays. It's also missing some meat-and-potatoes like a competitive spring reverb.

These are not just luxuries for me, but actual things I need to provide amidst my current projects. I use spring reverb all the time now to add a vintage-y vibe to funk and soul comping for my jam group. I use the synth and esoteric stuff a lot too playing in an electronic side project as well as adding creative touches to pop/session stuff.

None of that means that it isn't a "good-sounding device". It is! I could certainly gig with a QC now, and I could accomplish about 80-90 percent of what I currently do to my bandmates' or producer's satisfaction.

But the same is true of an HX Stomp. I'm not dropping $1700 for "close" or "just about everything". To me, a flagship floor modeler should be it.

Quad Cortex still isn't there - for my purposes - and Neural DSP has no stated intention of getting it there for the foreseeable future.
