NDSP Quad Cortex

If not more gear most of us would be shopping for a second yacht Tim.

Lmao Lol GIF

This is the weird situation with modelers where the cheaper stuff is getting significantly better with each generation, and can be more modern in operation too.

But then their modeling is usually still not as good as the top dogs, like in this case he needed more extreme settings to match the QC which points to the modeling probably not being that accurate. But even that is ok if you get results that work for you.

On top of that these cheaper brands are often pretty unreachable. You can talk to guys from Line6, Fractal, even NeuralDSP but if you want new features from an Ampero, you might be out of luck. Not sure how responsive their email support is.

I actually came really close to buying another QC last week and ultimately this was what stopped me.

I saw a video somewhere of a guy showing the super spacy big sort of reverbs in the QC and it did not sound good. Really flat and murky. Then he showed a UA Golden and Starlight in front of the QC and it sounded 100x better.

I love spring reverb too. I started thinking I’d have to plan for a pedalboard so I could add a Surfy Bear
Surfy Bear adds a lot of footprint, though. What do you think of the Fender Tre-Verb or Source Audio True Spring?

It does, but I figured I’d have go with something external if I went with QC.

I had a board concept I came up with that had the QC with a SurfyBear, ODR-1, Mostortion, Morningstar ML5, and exp pedal all on a Pedaltrain. It all fit pretty well actually.

I’m not a fan of the Fender, but the True Spring is pretty good

I'm finding these days I'm loving my QC more than ever. I was kind of a beginner at guitar in general when I got it so I really liked the simplicity. I liked that I could get up and playing in a couple if minutes without having to mess around.

Funnily as my ear becomes more attuned my rigs are becoming simpler instead of more complex, which I had predicted. I did do a lot of experimentation with stereo rigs with dual amps but I now find that completely unnecessary. Especially when recording where I prefer to layer things instead.

Despite not being to keen on them at first I'm leaning more heavily into captures now. I'm mostly rocking an incredibly sweet Bad Cat Lynx capture with a Plumes capture.

Have you tried Tonocracy? It’s now free and plays NAM captures. Lots of cool stuff from a few members here. @SeeD has been (re)capturing for QC (videos sounded good).

No. Haven't tried it yet. I've been meaning to but I never seem to get around to it. Happy enough with what I have. I'm not the type that needs to jump on all the latest gear. Which is probably heretical on this site.

Still really enjoying the QC.

I traded in my Kemper a few days ago. Boss GT-1000 will get listed for sale again at some point in time.

Also pretty sure I’m going to sell my Friedman IR-X, HX Effects, and a bunch of pedals. But will keep my HX Stomp and some analog stuff.

Do you still have the fractal or has that been sold?

Still have the Axe FX 3 and no plans to sell that at all. Should have mentioned, I still really enjoy that. I have the Axe 3 on my main desk with my big speakers, and the QC is on my work desk hooked up to either headphones or running into the return of my Katana Artist.

I have thought about getting a smaller amp to run the QC through, like one of those Orange Crush 35’s with the 1x10. The Katana Artist is massive and has a ton of bass because of the size of the cabinet. Something more like a Princeton size would be nice. But trying to use what I have.

How does the QC compare to the Friedman IR-X? Have you ever captured the IR-X?
