Marshall Amps

The current production 100W can be switched to 50W mode I believe? Its so cheap already that I guess it doesn't make sense to offer a separate 50W head

It’s not about the price, I’d gladly pay the same price as the 100W for a 50W
Yeah, I mean the price for Marshall to manufacture rather than to sell for. Can't imagine the margins are particularly massive on the 100W (Thomann was selling them for £400 new a while back) and diluting their line further might not really benefit them. Probably need a whole other batch of transformers, PCB, different chassis drilling, faceplates. Maybe they could easily do a 40 head? I'm guessing they'd just say buy the 100W and run it in 50W mode if you want a 50W.

Its not the same thing as an actual 50W, granted, but I think they've tried to accommodate that with the power scaling rather than offering different models. 100W's are cooler anyway, and I think the sweet spot is at a fairly manageable volume IMO (my 1989 2204 50W is painfully loud instantly)

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

I’ve always liked the 50W’s better. I like the feel and response better than the 100W’s

I used Red 2, gain at 2 with deep on, no mid shift/scoop, and Boss SD-1 set to clean boost. Gain off, level at 3:00 and tone to taste. Loved that sound from that amp. Plus Red 2 had a bit more going on in the low mids vs Red 1.

Yes, and by contrast I feel the jcm2000 isn't a great amp. It's OK but it doesn't take boost pedals like I expect.

I have seen both Joe Bonamassa and Nuno Bettencourt live, and they both killed it using backlined DSL2000s. :idk

Two very different and distinct players with different styles and tones, and yet that amp served them both equally well.

each to their own I guess. I don't usually use a boost with the red channel (unless its something metalcore) - I think its best as that kind of modded plexi thing. I compared it against my BE100 and I think it sounds at least as good, arguably a bit better if you prefer some upper mid Marshall bite. Green channel sounds pretty damn close boosted to a 2203 so I totally disagree that the amp doesn't take pedals well. Tons of bands use DSL's and boost the green channel, its like an early 2000's staple.

Man, I applaud this Marshall DSL hands the $4k Friedman its own bloated, tubby ass.

The prosecutions rests.

Anyone knows what's going on with the reissue Marshalls in the US, they are not available anywhere?
I only hope Zound will make the right move and not kill the brand.

They pulled the reissue amps after Marshall realized they could build the heads using old saltine crackers, pencil erasers, and duct tape. They’ll announce them soon with a modest 400% price bump.

Great players can play through anything and sound like themselves.

It's a decent back line amp as it costs a fraction of many others. Looks like they list for $1099 in the US now.

Any thoughts to share from those with direct experience on the older DSL Heads (50 or 100) versus
the new DSL100HR head? :idk

I know GuitarBilly at GGF has had both the DSL100H and JCM2000 DSL 100s (many of them and at various times). He always said to me that the two amps can sound very similar but he gives the nod to the DSL100H because of the added Resonance control. Wasn’t a fan of the HR though. Felt something got changed in the voicing somehow. I’d have to try one of each. My old DSL was a JCM2000 and that amp was killer. I’d happily take a 2005 or later JCM 2000 DSL again for the right price.

Owned every boutique amp out there and none do Marshall like my new 1979 JMP 2204

Short jam with bro last Fri pm -Very loud!

Its funny that this is even a conversation. I use “blah, blah hockenberry” because it does Marshall better than Marshall and is more reliable.
Oh hogwash, none of them do and they are only reliable when being carried from the left side of the living room to the right.

Want it to sound like a 70s jmp…get a 79s jmp.
Metropoulos gets a pass. Him only !

I mean there’s a reason my Metroplex is my #1 amp.
