I have a 2024 bone-stock JVM410H as the title alludes to. I plan to mod/tweak it so that each channel and each mode act as best it can to each of these pedals previous amps these channels and modes represent. IE, Plexi, modded Plexi, JCM800, hot JCM800, etc. I also plan to modify OD3 and four with some preamp changes to reduce available gain to usable levels for me. I also plan to do any key amp mods that are time tested improvements to the amp. I know there a lot to consider and obviously want to be selective about it.

An analogy might be what a car lover does with a passion-project restore/mod of their first car or favorite classic.

So I am very interested in what any of you might have done or modifications you might have heard in person or even read about. I’m all ears for success stories, missteps you wouldn’t repeat or fine tweaking you may have discovered during your mod process (ie, cap values different from common wisdom) or using potentiometers rather than fixed values for example.

I know there are resources out there on this and I’m reading them. But I’d really like to hear y’all’s experiences and opinions. Thanks! I’ll throw in a pic for inspiration and because it looks just so damn cool and classic in it’s own way.

I’m not sure I’ve heard a modded JVM that sounded better than stock, so I’d first work out exactly what you want to change rather than messing with stuff for the sake of it. Otherwise you’ll likely just end up back at square one.

Adding a choke is a good upgrade. NFB could be cool, relatively unobtrusive and you can still get the original sounds.

The only thing I’d consider messing with from there is OD2, which is pretty universally seen as “too much”. It’s a pretty complex amp internally with a lot of relay switching to make things happen so it’s hard to do many changes on one channel that won’t affect another.

I've got a two channel jvm and had the poop OD2 modded to Od1 specs. I'm planning on replacing it with a 410, so I can get the clean channel and will probably mod OD2 in the 410 so I have matching Od1 channels.

Yes, reducing the gain on OD2 is on my list as well. It’ll be done. Thanks for the rest, NFB and a choke as an option added for me to investigate!
