Line 6 POD Express

But why would an editor be so secret?

It’s more than a little amusing people saying “the Pocket POD has a screen, and it’s cheaper!”.

Yes. Yes it is. It’s also not using an ARM processor, but rather something from 20+ years ago.

Some guy at The Other Place™ shared a mockup design of what the POD Express' UI should look like, complete with LCD screen and six clickable encoders, given how it's supposed to be "aimed at people who want it simple" 🤦‍♂️

That right there is somebody who has lived a very sheltered life, which has negatively impacted his grasp of reality.

Not allowed to talk about any sort of editor.

Blink twice and lick your eyebrows if you need help testing it!

But why would an editor be so secret?

I shouldn't really disclose this but it will be public very soon anyway ...... when the Pod Go Express Editor drops ...... when it is powered-up ... if you hit the ALT key you will be given a prompt on your PC Screen to enter a code ... you can bypass this and just use it as normal ... however ..... if you enter the code "Full-Helix" ... once boot up is finished your Pod Go Express will now be running with the full power of the Helix Floor -and- a foldable pop-up 10.1" touch screen will emerge.

It was going to leak sooner or later so why not now.

Sorry Line 6 ... but the leaking of this was inevitable :(

It's probably been covered, but ain't nobody got time for 18 pages of back-thread.

Why is the chassis plastic? Does it really save that much money? I mean, could we pay $5 more and have it in a metal box?

tl;dr: Yes. The POD Express looks like a vanilla ABS plastic molded case, and those are usually dirt cheap to produce after the molds are created.

I mean, could we pay $5 more and have it in a metal box?

No idea how much more expensive a metal case would be, but i'm 99% certain it would be (way) more than 5 bucks.

Not sure about that. At least for any standard sized cases I'd say they're cheaper. I mean, each and every of those cheap chinese pedals comes in metal cases and you can get typical BB sized pedal cases for DIY projects as cheap as for 5-6 bucks - as a private person. As someone dealing with an enourmously high sales volume such as Line 6, it shouldn't be more, not even for custom sized cases.

But then, as you said, once the molds are production ready, a plastic case will possibly cost even less than $1, so there's still quite some money to be saved in case you expect to sell high 5-digit numbers of units.

Fro Yamaha / L6 ....... even differences of $5 <-> $10 start to really add up if you are selling 15,000+ .... 25,000+ ...... etc units

Set the price point to maximise sales and set the prod cost to the minimum needed to produce the product at the quality, longevity level and feature set you have pre-determined.

Seems to me, from looking through the Worship Tutorials video on the Pod Express, that’s possible. He even use the Alt + tap and adjust knobs, with one hand. I’m sure it can feel awkward at first but very much possible to learn.

Watching that video is what made me ask. I see a lot of adjustments in that video where he uses two hands to tweak a parameter.
