That being the case, this is cheaper. :D

I don't begrudge anyone being careful with their money. (And as for how much guitar anyone is actually playing... well, glass houses and all that.)

But I do sometimes wonder whether Tim actually likes gear at all. He could just as well be on a model train forum telling everyone they're wasting their money. (Insert "bunch of HOs" joke here.)
Anyone who buys a hot tub and says they don't like to waste money is kidding themselves 😂

1 => are the Amp Models included the "oversampling-fixed" current Helix models (?) or are they from the Pod Go "non-oversampling fixed" models (?)

2 => are the Cabs that are included the "new" IR shoots that were made for the new dynamic IR Cab feature -or- are they the legacy cabs ?

Lastly, I know it doesn't explicitly have Midi I/O but I have used my Dore Midi USB Host Controller successfully in the past on several units to add basic Midi PC [and sometimes Midi CC] functionality to units that have just a USB I/O connection and USB Audio Built in ... its not cheap [cost me US$60] but paired with something like the Paint Midi Captain-or- the MC6 MKII [which is what I use] it would add enormous live functionality

3 => any reason you can see why using this Dore-Midi-Host-Converter wouldn't also add basic Midi Control to this new pedal ?
  1. They're the same as POD Go—no extra oversampling.
  2. The 7 factory IRs are taken from the new cab engine, but the mic, position, and distance are fixed.
  3. No idea, but I can't imagine we'd spin cycles to add functionality to support it. Someone asked whether it'd work with an Akai MPC's USB A port and my answer's the same: If it magically works, cool, but we won't divert development resources to throw InMusic a bone.
So HX algorithms running for up to 6 hours on freaking batteries.

There has to be an ARM processor in there 🤔
Catalyst, HX One, and POD Express are all ARM-based.
I wonder if the reverbs are the same New dynamic types from the Pod Go?
Unfortunately, the Dynamic Reverbs wouldn't fit. Still sound good tho'.
Do you really have to hold the Alt knob every time you want to adjust your amp settings? Why not make it a toggle button instead so you could basically set up your fx etc, then leave it on amp tweaking mode?

I just really dislike "hold this and turn this" functions.

Otherwise, I like everything I'm seeing here. Would definitely go for this over the Boss IR-2 if I wanted something like this.
IIRC, we built in some logic so there's a time buffer after ALT is released, and we designed the layout so it can be accomplished with one hand. Still, latching ALT is something we talked about a while ago so I'll reach out to POD Express' PM.
Intreesteing! Does it use the Helix amps ? Also what's the in-out latency on this? @Digital Igloo could you spoil these secrets, please?
Yes, HX amps, but without the extra oversampling like in POD Go. Latency is 2.3ms.
That was pretty expected at this price point. Not being able to swap the IRs to your liking is a bummer as that can elevate these boxes a good bit, but it seems you can at least choose amp model X to use the cab model from amp Y.
Yep. Hold TAP+ALT and turn the center dial. Otherwise, selecting an amp recalls its matching Cab IR.
I presume the DI input gain is calibrated for Helix Native like the other Line 6 hardware?
Correct.
and again, that DI hates MIDI over 1/8".
My take is that if 1/8" MIDI allows for a smaller footprint, cool. If the footprint can't be shrunk by going from DIN to 1/8", then I prefer DIN. But it's not always up to me.

Ironic in that Line 6 invented 1/8" TRS MIDI. MIDI Mobilizer was Type A, which is technically now the MIDI standard, but BOSS decided to embrace Type B, which screwed everything up IMO. Had they chosen Type A and everyone agreed on the same pin configuration, I'd be much more inclined to push 1/8" TRS MIDI.
vs manual p. 7:

Can you clarify?
It's a compliance thing. We have to print 500mA because that's what our DC-1g supplies, but from what I've been told, POD Express pulls closer to 150mA. It's like how HX Stomp has "3A" silked on the back, but it pulls 1.3A max (99% DSP allocation, looper running, all white LEDs, all USB audio channels active, pushing high impedance headphones at full volume, etc.) and in the vast majority of real world scenarios needs less than 1A.
This is also opening up Line 6 modeling to more people. I’d have a hard time justifying a POD Go for a 13 year old, but this at $180 isn’t a big deal. And given its capabilities as an audio interface, allows them to be even more creative.

TL;DR Buy your kid a POD Express, not a Nintendo Switch.
@paisleywookiee GETS IT. :beer
I was hoping there would be some more detailed editing of parameters for delay, reverb and modulation in the editor...
;)

I agree with this...for sure in energy costs..same with our pool in summer. colorado is hard cause gotta shut down and open the pool every year. Must be great to live where pool is open year round and likely dont need to heat it as much. neighbor has their pool at 92 all summer...we keep ours at a balmy 80

NO !! @timbuck3 will not be getting one for 2 reasons... 1) He already has an FM9T MKII and 2) He hates Line 6 products !!

He doesn't see this as a simple, affordable & portable solution for alot a guitar players and students.
i dont "hate " line 6 products. i still have and use my spidervalve 2-12 combo and like it. iTs well made and a beast. I had a dg25 but liked the sv better so moved the dg along. I have the very 1st line 6 amp axsys..and thought it was cool...i had a vetta mk2 and thought it was cool but quirky..pods as well...hd500x a while ago before helix and i bought a helix at launch but sold it way before any decent updates.

I had the mx5 and it was blah to me... the katana mk1 and mk2 were ok but i prefered my old valvetronix ad120vtx amp and vtx300 amp..Gor tube feel in a ss amp..If line 6 releases something that wows me i would buy it. I just think these lower end modelers are maybe cheap price but you guys that buy every one of them it does add up and in the end i cant see them sounding any BETTER then the flagship so just get the flagship and be happy. I like older stuff sometimes..my 2006 mdx (gen1) had 260k on it and looks and rides great and i hope it will go to 500k..the gen 1 was the best of the mdx and i would buy another(as a back up.lol) if i found 1 with like low miles that some old lady never drove much or that didnt get driven much by a family or something. I test drove the newer mdx models and rdx and even the newer tl sedans and i just dont like them vs the older generations. So i think much of the older line6 gear was better made and more unique and interesting then whats released now.
I really dont think fractal will release a fm0 for guys waiting on that as why would cliff do that? just put his energy into better flagships and the whole fm3/9 sub categories are good and work out fine. The old $500-700 modelers are now 1000- almost 2k but that 2k limit will be exceeded soon i bet
