Line 6 Helix Stadium

They actually posted this a couple of days ago, then it got reposted both as a short and also as the same video.

I don't envy the Line 6 marketing team having to slowly repurpose all of the info from the presentation as once-per-week miniature videos. That normally is a good strategy, but I think a lot of the target audience have already worn the 12-minute summary video from @Digital Igloo out. I've personally tuned out because there's really no new information after confirming what the launch Agoura amps were going to be.

I don't expect clips until maybe September? It's not affecting my day one purchase decision either way. I've just been diving into Helix Native full-time because I can remove the hardware compatibility limit and dream big on the types of presets I hope to create in Stadium.

I thought I wouldn't care for the graphics and stuff....but I change my mind. I do like seeing something that looks like the actual pedal.
It's really fun. I've long missed the days of POD etc. Pilot's Guides, with the big photos of vintage equipment, clever descriptions and recommendations, etc. This takes that whole vibe and turns it up to 11.

I also really like how so much help text is embedded in the firmware and available on-screen. That "self-documenting" paradigm adds a ton of value in day to day use.

(Also: the multiple splits per lane look incredible.)

Ventoux spotted!

It’s just not necessary anymore. I’m starting to see in myself that it’s merely nostalgia.

You see, back in the day, you could fit more components and better technology in a rack. They sounded better and did more. Now, you can fit a multi effects unit in a pocket calculator sized enclosure.

I’m just thinking that rack mounted effect units are a set of ideas whose time has come and gone.
This, and that same, inevitable miniaturization has made the geometry of (most) rack-mounted gear pointless. Too much of the volume of a device is committed to the depth into the rack, and too little surface area is presented for the kind of UI that increasingly powerful devices require. And the ratio of that surface area, with a standardized 19" width, is also very particular. Back when a UI consisted of a couple of 8 segment LED displays and a row of knobs, OK fine. Now... not so much.

Stadium is the perfect example really. What would be the point of a Stadium minus that 8" touchscreen? And how many rack units would you need if you kept it? And if you did, what would it be, about 2" deep? :D

But now all the geartubers have a new video that they can make 15 minute speculation videos on. 🤦‍♂️ I swear if that was my “job” I’d rather go work in a warehouse.

I like that! I think they should really do the equivalent of including information from this thread into the self documentation -

That would really be awesome. At the end of the day we're just indulging in our geekery here.

They're kind of in a Victorian workhouse for the soul already. It must be genuinely depressing work most of the time. And the thought of having to come up with a new fucked up facial expression for each one as well makes my bones shiver.

Well, I for one hope that they do release some clips to compare the original helix sounds at OS 3.8 or 3.9 or 4.0 whatever it’s at versus the agora amps because this is probably what most people are really interested in and even though clips aren’t always the greatest you still would be nice to see the differences if there are any Sonic for some people at least with headphones or listening on really good speakers or whatever

What are you going to get from the clips? Are you expecting them to be night and day better? If this was a company with no previous products it would make sense to at least know what it sounds like, but unless it’s showing off a new effect or better tracking for pitch shifting, you’re not going to be able to tell. Unless you’re lying to yourself about your ears, anyways.

So it actually may be that the agora amps don’t really sound any better than the regular helix exams just from a programming state point of view it takes less time and effort to create them and maybe less internal processing power

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO KNOW THEY SOUND BETTER IN A CLIP ON YOUTUBE?

They could put 10 clips from Helix and 10 clips from Stadium up and randomize them and just say they were one or the other and you would never know.

Or it could actually be that you can’t tell the difference if you’re not playing it yourself.

I know I’ve said this before, but I understand why people want clips, and I also understand why line 6 isn’t giving them yet.
