Line 6 Helix Stadium Pre-Launch Discussion

Please release the Kraken and put us out of our JNC misery - otherwise we'll have another 10 videos between now and launch

I think that maybe, for the betterment of the entire human race, Line 6 should delay the Stadium launch. It is well known that coping with delayed gratification is good for our brains. Based on the hysteria surrounding the release by some folks on the web, they really could use the help.

I completely disagree. In fact, I think it's our moral obligation to fight AI in some areas (I don't even deny it could be very useful in other areas). Anything creative qualifies for that.

You are not king of the world so you don't get to decide what other people do and do not use AI for. There are a lot of people, including a lot of creatives who are already using AI to help them create things they never could do before. You aren't going to get them to stop and you aren't going to stop other people from starting. You are just fighting a war that you already lost. Pointless.

Sascha is indeed correct on a lot of his points about AI - but the fact is - the genie's out of the bag now. Ain't going back in.

We have to learnt to live with the consequences - and many of them will not be so positive in the long run.

just as an aside, I ended up as a developer instead of a musician 40+ years ago. Over these past 40 years I've been going to lose my job to fancy new tech a zillion times. Each time, I just learned the new tech and kept on working. AI is just like that. Either be the person making AI do it's thing or not. Doesn't matter if it's Quantum logic gates, or trinary operators, if you just accept new shit happens you'll be fine.
Competent, versatile staff will outlast those who let their skills atrophy, obviously. But let's not overlook the inherent problem: if AI works as advertised, fewer and fewer human developers will be needed, competent or otherwise.

And it's not as if we're only talking about software developers' jobs here. Nor are we talking about especially long timelines. (Nor have we even started talking about a computing paradigm that vastly increases our carbon footprint rather than reducing it - an about face at the worst possible time, in a field that has otherwise embraced miniaturization and efficiency.)

I agree we've already passed the point of no return with AI. And I agree that it will likely do a lot of good (in fields like medicine, materials engineering, etc.) But after that? Things will probably get worse before they get better. How much worse and how much better... That all depends on decisions we make as a species within, effectively, the blink of an eye. (It concerns me that we don't really make decisions "as a species" at all, let alone good ones.)

On a lighter note. I still want a Helix Stadium. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Things they couldn’t create or things they could, just faster? I have no expectations of stopping AI, but I do think “art” in any capacity should be watermarked for AI unless it was a closed model ONLY trained on an artist work for them to use.
