I'm in a minimal phase right now

All the bloomin' gear I've got.... and it is a Mark V, Lehle Mono Volume, Cry Baby 535Q, DD8, DM101, and RV-5 that are all setting my juicies on fire!

I think some times I'm prone to forgetting what actually is the CORE of my tone... and it pretty much is that kind of setup. Volume pedal, wah, two delays, and a reverb.

Sounds legit! 😎

Vol-dirt-reverb-fuzz-delay-reverb-infinite sustainer-looper.

That’s my sweet spot. I actually want something more like a tremolo or other type of effect somewhere in there. But I don’t really need it.

Orv… two reverbs is essential! I’m disappointed…

Unintentionally, 2025 is most likely going to be a minimal phase year for me as well. If I do end up with anything new, it’ll be the result of getting rid of something else. At first I was really bummed that I won’t be getting a JPIIC/VII/IIC+, but I had a bit of a “What are you actually doing right now?” talk with myself and I certainly don’t need a new amp with all the shit I’ve got kicking around when I’m not playing in a band.

I’ve been a bit bored with the idea of writing new music as a result of last year’s “I want to play in a band so I’m only writing music suited for playing in a band” and I need to start writing just to write again. The fact that I was considerably more productive in my studio when I had considerably less gear has been playing around in my head quite a bit.

Funny thing, that’s pretty much the core of mine too no matter how much more crap I add. Two delays, a reverb, a volume pedal, a few gain options (amp or pedal based), and a wah and I can do all the stuff that matters for me.

I’m trying to make modulation part of my core thing just to make life more interesting, but it always comes down to the above really. The wah is optional, I like it but I don’t really use it all that much.

D

I can't really get too wet about modulation tbh. I like a bit on the wet side of the spatial effects, but on my dry guitar it all starts to sound a bit dated to me. I dunno... there are moments where I've used it, but largely not.

Feeling this too.

Plugging into the Mark III with a space echo, phase 90, and a Green Rhino has felt right lately. I feel connected to the rig when I’m playing, inspired, and know how to leverage the few effects I’m using to “stretch” things for impact. If anything it’s the “doing more with” mentality that I’m really digging. I tend to think we’re better creatively when we are working to overcome a constraint - forced creativity maybe?

Either way this shit sounds and feels killer.
