More in the 'stories of minimalism' series

Where I am right now. Although I'm dubious about a few things:

- Micro.Clock kinda sucks. I mean, it is fine. But it updates the tempo every 2 taps rather than averaging out across 4/8/10... which means you end up getting really big tempo jumps. That needs to go to be honest.

Which leaves me in a quandry about having a global tap tempo source. Maybe if I get a Boss DD500 on the board that'll do the job.

- The Meris LVX. I dunno man.... been a bit cool on this pedal recently. It does some great sounds, but some of them are really exotic and borderline unmusical.

- The MercuryX is fantastic. But I'm missing that bog standard 'Hall' from the RV-5.

Why does the morningstar multi effects have no knobs? Guessing its a touch screen device.

Amazed by your dedicated delay and reverb pedals. The reverb pedal's youtube demo sounded so good.

Get that rv-5 back on the board orv…. It’s just one of those, sounds great just play pedals.

Personally I could even consider a rv3 for that “gritty old algorithms” thing. It does have a sheen… kinda.
RV-6 for could be viewed as a RV-5 but more of everything.

Can't you use the MC6 Pro for this?

There seems to be some kind of bug where when I have my SPST switch plugged into it, I can't switch any presets. When I unplug it, it works fine.

I have the omniport setup as a TRS aux switch, I'm using a stereo cable, and I have the omniport configured to do a midi clock tap. It worked during the editor config the first time around, but then stopped working and I don't know why. Which is why I figured, sod it, use the Micro.Clock.

I'm gonna spend some time with the board today. Come up with some sounds. But I have a strong feeling that I don't actually want the Meris pedals on this board.

I'm feeling a strong pull towards getting a DD500 for my "main" delay sounds, and then using that as the master clock so I can sync the Plethora to it, and then the Plethora for would be analog delay sounds and the occasional modulation effect. I also quite like the 1-button looper you can run on the Plethora. Then I'd put my RV-5 and MXR Reverb on there, and also maybe pickup a Strymon Cloudburst.

In this scenario, the MC6 would be just switching amp channels. So if I don't bother with that and just use the Mark V footswitch, then I could put a Ditto X2 loop in that spot, or get something that would give me nice glitchy effects.

I dunno. "Going minimal" turns out to not be that easy!!

Sounds like something Morningstar support should help you figure out, or could fix with an update if it's a bug.

It sure isn't, at least if you want to keep some of the good stuff you are used to on modelers like presets, one button switching etc.

Orv.. babe… darling dear.

It’s about giving up and giving in. A kind of realization about being content.
“If it only had presets”
“It must have double this and that and trails and 12 different modes”
“I need need need”
Fuck all that…
Look at a pedal that does a thing, let it do its thing and let it guide you, let it decide for you how it sounds and don’t fuck with it.

I only need/want a handful of sounds. Even the above is definitely stripped back versus what my G3 board was setup to do. But yeah, I'm heading in this direction.

Can I continue to be annoying?? If I sack off the Morningstar controller from the board, which I might as well do since I'm not really gonna need it....

What other stuff should I consider putting in that gap??

Things I like:
- Flanger (occasionally, and Plethora can do it very well)
- Phaser (occasionally, and Plethora can do it very well)
- Tremolo (occasionally, and Plethora can do it very well)
- Fuzz (I like gnarly fucked up fuzzes, and I also like subtle fuzzes that work well with ebow)
- Compression (occasionally, and Plethora can do it very well)
- Boosts; but with the Mark V, debateable whether I need one or not.
- Overdrive; I had a Boss SD1 and TS808 already. I quite fancy a Tumnus Deluxe at some point. But anything else?
- Loopers.
- Glitchy effects.
- Weird drone things.
- Sample playback things.
- Obviously I love reverb and delay, and I use quite a few different variations in my music. But I'm reasonably well covered there now!

Things I don't like or really care about:
- Using distortion pedals as my main source of gain.
- Spring reverb.
- Chorus.
- Pitch effects.
- Cab sims or amp in a box pedals.
- Synth pedals.
- Altoid tins (fuck you @Snags !!!)

Just looking for some fun stuff to explore. Recommend me something!

Everybody needs a fuzz. Compressor... maybe. Could use it as a gain boost too.

If I was putting a fuzz on your board for you to try this would be my first pick. It'll do glitchy crazy stuff, all manor of weird noises, more atmospheric stuff and smooth fuzz in one pedal.

My wild card for your board. That's a pretty big space you've got and you need something epic to fill it. Tbh I'm probably only picking it because I really want one. Man it's cool.

Please try phase 45 to simulate a leslie. Don't know if you will like it or which pedal will do it better. Much more experienced people here will chime in.

Harmonic Tremolo. JHS used to sell one for 99$ I think. Don't know if it's still made.

Flanger like ones made by EHX or Pastfx if you wanna spend more $$$ for sounding like the Police.

I like hearing musicians who can use effects creatively. However, a friend once handed me her 8-pedal board and I was so overwhelmed, I ended up just re-tuning her guitar. So I can't use them properly lol.

Buy a fuzz pedal, and something that does weird things.

Well that's shit. What was the problem with it? I really fancied a pedalboard friendlyish tape delay.
Honestly, it sounded murky and cack. Not in a good way. I don't know if it was the unit I tried or not, but I was very disappointed. It sounded small, tiny, distant, muddy, and not nice.

I honestly think you're better off with a Volante or something!

Wick. That's shit. I've been gassing for one of those for ages. I'd still like to try one, I've never used a real tape delay before.

Isn't the usual complaint about real tape echos that they sound more pristine than people expect? Because they don't have a worn to shit tape that's been spliced 3 times over.

Maybe something was wrong with the one you tried.
