IK Multimedia TONEX

I definitely agree that capturing is best when it’s your amp and you’re familiar with it and know what to expect. But I find the same thing with modelling really, I seem to have a much happier time using models when I know they can sound and behave like the real amps. That’s essentially what I look for in a model - a familiarity and expectation.

Capture tech is excellent in the studio - I can be working with different bands on different projects and we can easily jump between captured sounds and carry on between sessions on non consecutive days.
It has a flip side as I just found out. One of my amps has gremlins I haven’t been able to chase down. So I’ve been using a capture of it. But it reminds me on the currently non working head it pisses me off.

You also get to enjoy getting the amp fixed and it never QUITE being like it used to be too!

We get that with Fractal updates!

I watched the Andy Wood stream before it was posted here. He's usually a pretty solid dude, but he was definitely on a tantrum. I am willing to bet his issue wasn't even with IK, its probably just a matter of routing within his interface software. Either way, not a good look complaining like that before looking to get any actual help.

He's always going on about how amps are physical, and you can easily fix and diagnose problems because they're physical, whereas the digital stuff is impossible to diagnose. That's mostly untrue. Even digital stuff usually has a breadcrumb trail you can follow to figure out what is going wrong and where.

Since I posted the video and have now since fired up ToneX myself, I want to say I agree with this quite a bit. I’ll make a more detailed review with some clips later tonight but I loaded up ToneX for the first time since launch last night, had to update it and I had zero issues with the software at all (I had issues, just not with anything related to ToneX or IK).

About 2 minutes after I had it loaded up I thought, “Yeah, Andy was a little too quick to fire off on that one”. My iMac hasn’t been updated since I’ve owned it, it’s still running Catalina and I had zero issues getting the software to work as the standalone or inside Logic.

Quite impressed, really, but I’ll save all that for the detailed review later.

Can we atleast know if you fired up the 3rd Power Pack? 😬
Excuse my ignorance, but what is that? I have the sig collection and Brown Sound pack. Always interested in more that might be useful!

Which reminds me, I really like the baked in Virtual IR’s in the Editor (reminds me of a similar ability in the Solid Studio MKII). Are there any expansion packs for these available? If not, that would be a killer addition for IK to offer IMO. @IK Multimedia

I have the best fart noises, that I captured myself.

My best friend, who was a big reason I started playing when we were 11, hasn’t really done anything with “music” in a long time, but he got Garageband on his iPhone and has this sleep tracker that records audio when it detects him making noise and every couple months we get about 15-20 seconds of farts he’s taken from the tracker and organized into a song.

And here people thought you couldn't make serious music with an iPhone or iPad!

It's the 3rd Power (amp maker) Dragon amp that I believe Satriani has raved about and or used.

Thanks! I think Analgram just released a pack on a possibly related amp. Maybe not…

Yeah at the end of the day a hot rodded marshall I'm sure!

I love Amalgam but their super high gain/modern gain packs are a tad lacking. They made a 5153 pack and from what I saw didn't have one profile that has a boost out front 😮 not that it can't be easily corrected and does add for more flexible but still
