Helix Talk

Random thought: yesterday I was thinking how funny it is how QC users have been waiting for plugin integration while us Helix users have been able to do that with Helix Native for many years now BUT it's even better because we get the entire Helix in one plugin.... just sayin"

Because it may become a thing, perhaps in this very thread...

With a bit of Yamaha's logistics help (and many sleepless nights for Frank), we've been able to solve or otherwise mitigate many of the COVID-era supply chain challenges and other unforeseen cost increases. Helix Floor was always supposed to be $1499.99 and Helix LT was always supposed to be $999.99 and it HURT to raise the prices years ago. As of day one of NAMM, they're now back to where they should've stayed all along.

Old school pricing plus a free backpack (per Sweetwater)?

You have to understand that this is going to fuel the conspiracy that a Helix successor is on the way, right? Especially in combination with the comments about the new SHARC processors available.
It was my first thought. But I trust (?) DI

Took the day off work for sick kids, had some downtime so I wanted to make virtual HX clones of my EVH 5150iii 50W Stealth. Started with matching the Blue channel preamp to a preamp model, obviously the Vitriol Crunch being the easiest to get closest. A/B'ed with playing and then pink noise, and then playing again.

After the Blue Pre was done I went ahead and did the full amp clone, A/Bing my Stealth with 2x12 cab to the Vitriol model with a very close IR of the same cab. The Vitriol knob settings aren't 1:1 to my Stealth but I've got them sounding damn close to the way I've got my Stealth dialed in. Red channel was next, and then Green. This took less than 30 minutes, thanks to the available Vitriol channels. It took longer to do this with my PRS MT15 and I felt indifferent about the results but these sound really good (at least today, who knows how I'll feel tomorrow!).

I saved the blocks as favorites so I can recall them at any time but I've made three presets as to be able to share these via Customtone. The links are below:

Green Channel Preset
Blue Channel Preset
Red Channel Preset

Each preset has three blocks. A High/Low Shelf assigned to FS1 named "Goose" as a front end mid boost, a Vitriol amp model of the corresponding amp channel, and an IR block. Of course you can change the IR/cab to whatever you want but I'm using the Dua Verde Prime IR from my Alex Cab collection if you want to virtually come over and play through my rig ;)

Control settings as I had matched them from my Stealth (Resonance knob on the back is up just a touch):

Nothing particularly groundbreaking or off-the-rails, but still really cool, as I dive deeper into the capabilities of the Helix:

1) I built an "imitation" of my kitchen sink preset the other day, with substitute models wherever possible (like a parallel universe/Bizarro version) and ended up loving some of the sounds even more than before! 😍

Grammatico GSG instead of the Moo))n T, a different string synth, Vintage Digital delay replacing Transistor Tape, Vital Dist instead of the Wringer, etc.

2) After hearing the Twin Tracker in Genome, I had success freeing up some DSP, then increasing the dual cab panning and adding the Stereo Imager -> that thing is legit. 👌

3) Until now, I kept using the Helix with a guitar amp/cab (power amp input/fx return) or headphones, but this morning I hooked it up to my cheap home stereo receiver for the first time, feeding it the path that features cabs/reverb and the Stereo Imager, like I would provide to the FOH in a gig situation (a separate mono path would run straight to my on-stage amp).

And color me surprised, in a good way! 🤯 -> That sounded really awesome, no phasing issues or any other obstacles, at all. I rolled the volume up high, and the results were very pleasant, also thanks to Global EQ. 🔥❤️🔥

Kind of a late bloomer here, but I had to share the joy, since I guess you folks do understand... 😁

Self-proclaimed Helix fanboi here, but those new Kemper trems just blew me away. L6, this should all be cakewalk for you guys. yes please!
Same, as an ambient player I'm always obsessing over delays and reverbs, but this video made me realize I'm really not paying enough attention to modulations. I went through the Helix models again and the 4-Voice Chorus with just two voices on has a really nice shoe-gaze quality to it.
