Helix Talk

Do you think the Helix/HX hardware will hit a 10 year anniversary as the main modeler range form Line 6?
We are approaching rack longevity territory here, a ton of effects in the Helix are timeless already.
Kemper profiler: 2012

Line6 Helix: 2015
(Line6 Pod HD500: 2010)

I am convinced that Line6 will not launch a new flagship guitar modeler before 2025. Just imho, considering also the world economy and the firmware updates still going on.

So... I have a question.

With Digital Igloo saying not to bet on a successor coming out in 2024, Helix could just barely make it to 10 years.

Trying to confirm or refute a bug concerning MIDI CC#56 / external FS8 triggering on HX Stomp XL:

Can anyone confirm that MIDI CC#56 does indeed trigger FS8?
I.e. if you set Global Settings -> Footswitches -> FS8 Function to Bank Up - does a MIDI CC#56 message actually trigger Bank Up?

Is that the Tap/Tuner footswitch?

On the Helix Floor MIDI CC to emulate FS6 and FS12 foot press are not allowed, but on the HX Stomp XL they are?
There is CC #64 and #68 to trigger Tap tempo and Tuner, but you should not have CC to emulate a foot press.

I wonder if the DL4 is a decent point of comparison for longevity.

In my opinion the elements that really define a new generation of modelers are:

1. More powerful hardware.
2. Amps and cabs accuracy and realism.
3. Rig building, routing, switching and control.
4. UI.

Leave any one of these elements out and you might call it a 'revision' instead of next gen.

I mean, if the Helix is still selling, being updated, and being used by pros, and some folks agree that there isn’t much difference in sound quality between the “top 3”, then I see no reason to introduce a new flagship.

I mean, the FM9, for comparison, is a much newer piece of hardware, that doesn’t “blow the Helix away”, and costs more, so, I think Line 6 is good for a couple more years.

In the US, a Helix costs as much as an FM9 Turbo ($1699).

FM9 is still based on the Axe-Fx 3 from 2018 so even though the product is new, everything about its software is older.

Since my pedalboard is uprooted and in pieces, waiting for connectors and such, I pulled my Helix Floor out of the closet and quickly remembered why I can't let this thing go. It's a Cadillac. Huge but comfortable. Having 6 parameters on the screen at all times is so nice, don't need to rely on shortcuts and button-holding to get to certain functions. No extra footswitches or midi controllers -- except the Micromidi attached to the side of my Katana for switching the MT15, which I can easily hide down in front of the HXF if I wanted to.

Currently using it in Preset Spillover with the MT15 in 4CM

Damn straight.

I can't imagine what they would replace the Helix with, or how much that would cost. While it's old and heavy, it's operation, GUI, routing, and options are 2nd to none, IMO.
