Helix Talk

My Helix USB key storing the show files for a lot of Hawaii's biggest! I still haven't used it on my Helix

As I understand it, yes.
From what I understand the Bias parameter lets you choose how much of the post phase-inverter signals (+ and - phase) is chopped and later glued together in a push-pull amp's output transformer.
What is the authentic Bias parameter setting for a single ended (non push-pull) class A amp like the Champ (US Small Tweed)?

Maybe I am not the buyer persona of Helix. Because I really don’t want to learn what that first sentence means. I just want to play.

it’s nice that Line 6 makes these parameters the way the amp is suppose to sound.

I can rephrase this:
Usually the Bias control let's us tune the amp model from class B over class A/B to class A behavior which is a characteristic of push-pull amps. But a single ended amp like the Champ is always class A - so what does Bias do in that case?

Playing around with the cabs for the Super reverb. So far, I like to use the Tweed 4x10 and the 4x10 Super Reverb. I pan the tweed 100 to the left and the Super 100 to the right.

I use an 121 ribbon + a 57 dynamic.

Just to verify.
- The bass seem to decrease when I move a mic away from the speaker?
- A dynamic mic sounds nice close to the edge.. but distance way shorter than a ribbon mic?? (this is taste, maybe, but could also be a rule of thumb?)

Are there any tips you see I could improve uppon?

First time I am playing around with the cabs instead of placing an IR.

Read on the interwebs that two mics is more beautifuller

Maybe, maybe not.
Still, as you're sorta starting out, do yourself a favour any only deal with one. The amount of settings due to partially heavy interaction between two mics is overwhelming and I'd only ever go there in case I really knew which mic I wanted to add to which other mic. And for that to work, I need to know the individual mics and their options.

Fwiw, I use single mics for pretty much everything. In case I really record something more or less important, I may fool around with mixes, but for any daily usage, 95% of what I'm doing is using one mic.

Will do. It’s so easy to overdo it r to go to fancy with helix..

would you go for a ribbon or for a dynamic? Or that is probably all taste again? :)

I like the ribbons in the Helix

Either the 121 or the 160. The 4038 is nice but you have to pull it waaay back to keep from being too boomy... like 10" back

I prefer the sm7 in most cases. Sometimes I like the ribbons too. I don’t really do dual cabs either unless I’m trying to do some specific stereo routing with stereo blocks before and after cabs.

This is what I ended up with. So far. I am really trying to built that baseline of my sound. Doesnt need to be fancy. I just want to built something I am happy with to practice with.

I have two overdrive pedals at the front. The Dhyna drive (gain: 1.6, voice: 3.5, Tone: 8.0, level: 6.3) and the Teemah ((gain: 1, bass and treble cut: 5, level 6) >> Super Reverb >> this cab

I am looking for a simple reverb but maybe I'll leave it for now

Nice, dhyana drive > teemah > super reverb is exactly what I’m doing with my super reverb preset too, except I use the 112 open cast cab with the sm7, it just works for everything. I do like the new super cab too though. I put stereo hot springs after the cab and stereo dynamic ambience or dynamic room after that for when I want to play dry with some room sound.

Two reverbs, that is a nice idea. I tried it and really like that. I do the mix down around 10-15. That's enough for me. I have no idea what all those other buttons do lol
