Helix Talk

Yeah someone mentioned it a page back as good for high gain, I can’t speak to that because I don’t really do high gain unless it’s fuzz, but this sounds awesome. I think I like it better than the grammatico lg, but both are good.
You mean the GSG or the other Grammatico?

I sat down for some tweaking today (national holiday, everything's closed, feels almost like a lockdown!), and finally managed to A/B approximate Helix vs. pedalboard closely enough without using any high cut via Global EQ.

Even got to use my pair of LAB L5's in the process. They don't have the same speakers, so there's a base tone difference - but I guess can totally live with that.

Preamp knobs and Helix parameter values aren't exactly corresponding, which is why I had to drastically back down on the treble for the Helix Moo)))n Jump model, while I used my go-to settings on the Kuro Exegol (Model T pre).

Can't wait to take the Helix back to band practice. Bypassing the Global EQ makes the fuzzes sound more "alive" in a way, and I'm under the impression the overall sound can "breathe" better (toxic buzzwords, I know...).

We have a gig coming up in late November, and I really wanna bring the Helix this time.

Fingers crossed! ❤️

I would love to see L6 take a swing at the Mesa Simul 2:90 poweramp, along with its deep and modern switching options.

It would add a level of flexibility, opening up possibilities like dropping a tube guitar preamp (or preamp pedal) in the Helix loop and using the 2:90 model and either the Hx cabs or your favorite IR.

Maybe it sounds like a specialized use case, but it would be nice to have one tube power amp model in there.

Hey all !

Could a HX Stomp User please test for me if the following 8 Blocks can be loaded in a single HX Stomp Preset:-

1. Script Mod Phaser
2. Parametric EQ
3. Heir Apparent Drive Block
4. Amp Block - "US Deluxe Vib" and "Matchstick Ch2" and "Derailed Ingrid" and "Brit 2203" [these are my 4 Different Amp Presets]
5. 2048 Single IR
6. 3 Band Comp
7. Vintage Delay Block
8. Dynamic Room Reverb Block [Mono]

Many thanks in advance. Ben

yes, just checked on my Stomp XL. You can even run the delay and reverb in stereo if your heart desires. I checked with all four amps.

Hey HX Stompers !

Just another hopefully quick and easy question:-

Am trying to find the a doc / pdf file with the full Midi Spec for the HX Stomp - cant find one ?

If it doesn't exist, anyone know what the specific Midi PC and/or Midi CC numbers are for:-

=> Preset UP
=> Preset Down
=> Amp Block Channel Volume
=> Output Block Level Volume

Maybe (?) these settings are in the Command Center (?)

Just wanting to confirm [or otherwise] that I can control the HX Stomp with my Morningstar MC6 for these controls before I hit the "buy" button :)

Many thanks again,
Ben

Pg 60 in the manual.

None of these have specific CC numbers assigned to them, but you can assign any parameter (channel volume, output block level, IR level, Drive, Sag) to be toggled from a minimum to a maximum value within the Stomp itself and assign that control do whatever available MIDI CC you'd like.

For Preset Up/Down, those commands are in fact in the Command Center under HX Preset. I don't think you can access those commands via MIDI unless you assign them to the Stomp switches and then use the corresponding MIDI CC to emulate that footswitch.

I also just found and watched a quick Y/T Video from Morningstar which shows in detail and quickly and easily how combining the MC6 with the "Learn" function on the HX stomp allows you to pretty much assign any single individual parament to a MC6 FSW either Toggling or On/Off.

My thanks again,
Ben

I'm not using a MIDI controller with my Stomp at the moment but when I did I'm almost certain that I was using preset up/down which was mapped to CC 72. It's not mentioned in the manual however it is included on the Helix Help MIDI page, which is where I found it.

Hm, all of those MIDI commands aren't for the Stomp (emulating FS 7, 8, 9, etc are also listed) but that would be nifty if CC72 did the trick. I assume a low value for previous preset and high value for next preset?

Down in the trenches in this thread is something with some Morningstar-specific advice:

On the stomp am I able to assign a FS to turn off one block and turn another on with a single tap or is that something I can only do in snapshot mode?

Ok cool... started cooking up a plan in my head here at work but then I got worried that kind of behavior was restricted to snapshot.

Kind of want to make duplicates of all my presets to be "Badlander versions" so I can integrate a clean preamp from the stomp to effectively turn the badlander into a 3 channel amp. The cleans aren't much to write home about as far as "pristine cleans" go so might as well set up the BAD to it's strengths with two dirty channels and let the stomp handle cleans. I figure the best way to do this is on my "badlander presets" have a button assigned that simultaneously switches amp block on and fx send block off and vice versa

I mostly live in stomp mode. I wish I could have 5 snapshots with the added 2 button footswitch, that would be perfect. But yeah I will assign multiple changes to one stomp switch. It’s slightly more work than setting up snapshots but it works.

Yeah I have some presets set up already to engage multiple FX at once I just wasn't clear on one off one on

I have an expression pedal in the external FS jack but I am using the Mvave chocolate midi controller so I have 7 stomp buttons available to me at a time. Kinda dislike forgoing tap tempo but I think having 7 buttons is ultimately more useful to me

I don’t use tap tempo at all. I mostly do slapback delay anyway, not big on tempo matched delays.

Setting one off and one on is the same as what you’re already doing, just turn one of the blocks off by highlighting it and pushing the knob, and now they will be in opposite states when you press the footswitch.

I might need to get one of those midi controllers. But every time I start reading about programming them I get scared away.

Do you have a link to the one you’re using?

The mvave was very painless to program in the app and I'm a total idiot and not well versed in that sort of thing hahaha. Crazy value too, they're cheap everywhere but I shopped around and got one for $26 off walmart online marketplace of all places lol. To work with the stomp they do specifically need the Boss midi to 1/8" cable and then an 1/8" to 1/4" TRS adaptor at the end of that. Super happy with it and it perfectly fit on my board with room that I didn't even know I had lol. My only complaint is that I'm not super impressed with the battery life but I recently switched to the cioks to power my board (so that I can also juice the stomp along with everything else with only one plug) which has a USB output so now I just keep it plugged in all the time (I still turn it off when not in use, and I don't run power to my board when I'm not using it either)
