Helix Talk

Hm, all of those MIDI commands aren't for the Stomp (emulating FS 7, 8, 9, etc are also listed) but that would be nifty if CC72 did the trick. I assume a low value for previous preset and high value for next preset?

Down in the trenches in this thread is something with some Morningstar-specific advice:

I ran a MIDI cable from the IN to OUT ports on the Stomp to verify and it does indeed work. Setting up a footswitch to send a CC toggle command, sending CC72 with a value of 0 triggered previous preset, and a value of 127 triggered next preset.

Testing that out with the jumped MIDI cable made me realise I could solve one of the wishes I've had with the Stomp since I got it.

When playing I typically bounce between Stomp and Snapshot mode, and up until now I've been assigning an external footswitch to cycle through FS modes to get to the mode I want. Now I can assign the footswitch to send a CC toggle command, and toggle between Stomp and Snapshot mode with CC71 values 0 and 3. Not the most elegant solution but it works nicely in this case where I'm not otherwise using MIDI with the Stomp.

It'd be great if this was offered as a native FS function without the need for the MIDI cable.

Sometimes I like to explore new layouts or templates for the Helix Floor, just because I like it and I learn somenthing.

This time I've explored the preset spillover feature trying to fit the most into 10 footswitches.
The whole idea is based on 2 preset: 01A for clean sounds, 01B for drive sounds (that's not necessary the best way to spread sounds among 2 presets)

FS7: assigned via command center to recall preset 01B (drive sounds)
FS8-11: assigned to single stomps making the preset like an analogue pedalbard
FS1: assigned to the level boost for lead. I like having it always available

FS2-5: assigned via command center to recall snapshots (snapshot 1 is the default state) for fast access to most used combinations; using press & hold will recall snapshots 5-8 (at the moment assigned to lead sounds combinations)

an instant command in preset 01B trigger the amp control out and change amp channel to ch2

On the stomp am I able to assign a FS to turn off one block and turn another on with a single tap or is that something I can only do in snapshot mode?
Not only that, you can also have that same foot switch toggle between max and min settings of another block’s parameter. I tried to get everyone to call this feature “stompshots”, but like “fetch,” it never happened.

This looks like genius! I don't understand quite how it works, like my command center stuff is within a preset. Is this a preset that calls up other presets?

yes, you can set switch to recall a specific preset or next/previous one (HX preset voice in the scroll down menu)

then for each FS assigned to a snapshot is set like this: for example FS2 that recalls snapshot 1 or 5 (with press and hold)

for snapshot 1

for snapshot 5

My universe has just gone recursive. So how would I then change to a new preset that has a whole new set of command center assignments?

My case is like this, I have a 12 string acoustic sound, hi gain rhythm sound, pretty much that sound but more delay and reverb lead sound, similar to the lead but harmonized sound, and keyboard sound. Right now these are all snapshots.

I also like to name the main preset after the song it’s for and also show the key, but really only need that for the lead. I have different keys for the harmonisers based on the song too.

May be that the way I’m doing this with snapshots is still the best way but what you are doing sounds really cool

command center assignments are stored in the preset, they are not global.

I actually use a general "kitchen sink" preset with no snapshots and few presets with dedicated snapshots for some songs.
I much prefer using a single preset within a song (with or without snapshots) and still find it the best apporach.

The one I've posted above was just an experiment to see what else can be done with this wonderful machine named Helix.
I will dig deeper in this approach just for fun but I don't think I'll use it.

There are two drawbacks I've found so far: 1. there's a small gap when switching from clean preset to drive preset (there's no gap if you use an amp model instead of a real amp in 4cm); 2. is not possible to go from, let's say, preset 1/snapshot 1 to preset 2/snapshot 4 because when you recall a preset it start form where you saved it. practical example...you can't go back and forth from drive with phaser to clean with tremolo if your default state on both presets is all effects off.

about drawback 2 it's probably possible to arrange things differently between 2 presets and minimize this risk. it's not necessary to split all clean and all dirt sounds between 2 presets, they might be both a mix of them but Idk. seems a bit too complicated.
