Helix Talk

This was for me the era of looking at any Line6 product like this:

"Is this just POD XT/HD or whatever in another form?"

I think you have turned that around with the Helix lineup.

Boss is still in that sus mode where you always wonder if their new product is some shittier COSM stuff rearing its ugly head.
COSM has always been a branding issue, not a technology issue. "COSM" is just Roland-speak for modeling (it even predates public acceptance of the term "modeling"!), and there have been many iterations and improvements in COSM over the years.

I know, but there's definitely different "tiers" of even Boss modeling. The GT-1000 is the top, and everything else seems to be just a bit below it but you can never really figure out if they are without trying them yourself. Some say the GX-100 doesn't sound as good as the GT-1000 even though on the surface level GX-100 looks like a GT-1000 with a touchscreen UI.

Line6's Helix vs POD lineup is way easier to decipher nowadays.

katana gen 3 modeling is above GT-1000, not even remotely kidding. GT-1000 successor or update is gonna turn heads

I used to agree with you on this, then I heard the gt-1000 recto model…

Is anyone using an HX One along with the full Helix? I'm debating swapping out my Drop and going all Line 6.

I once seriously considered adding a stomp xl to the helix floor along with the Ventris I was already running with it. So you’re nowhere near as insane as me, I say go for it. HX poly pitch stuff is straight up better than digitech plus HX One does a lot of other stuff great. Don’t even ask about my absurd collection of pitch shifting pedals…

I’ve seen a couple of rig rundowns or pictures of pros who use the Helix with a few other boxes. If you’re willing to carry it, it’s not crazy. I’m old enough now that I’m seldom willing to carry that much.

I use an HX One with my Stomp. The former in front and latter in my amp’s loop (all effects-only).

But no, not with the full Helix. That I use on its own in 4cm with my amp (without the One and Stomp).

Im having thoughts about what to do when my one year ”purge” ends, this fall. Currently just playing around with thoughts.

*Affordable yet effective and be able to do what i want with margins over.
*Only for home playing, but size still matters. Want it small and light.

If going Stomp then it’ll be the third and final time i do that. I made a promise that i would never sell a stomp again (done that two times).
Thought about XL, but to me it would only make sense if i played in a band. The Jet micro basically turns the Stomp to XL (and more). And the Micro is manageable in a home playing situation. Not even sure I actually need a Micro again. XL would make the rig larger than I’d want anyway. Within the same space i can add substantial DSP stuff like the TC infinite and Ditto (or a TC HOF for my first in chain shoegaze/Postrock needs).

This seems like the most economical/features idea. Not 100% sure I’ll go Helix again though. Playing around with other ideas but that will cost more and become much larger.

Also I can’t ignore the Stomp being a good enough interface for my MBA m1. And the best guitar pedal there is….( when viewed as a guitar pedal )

Seems like a dead end for me. I really don’t want or need profiling stuff, QC and FM3 are over my budgets. I loathe… i really really don’t like the china modelers, i try to… but i cant. Headrush is also out of the question. Tried the mx5 and it was alright but the constant up/down on floor and desk thing was tiresome and honestly i don’t like touch screens.

Stomp is life…. Life is Stomp. There’s only one. Damn it.

My wife hates it when I minimize something that she thinks is a huge thing. Now I understand her. You managed to shrink my proud balls to grains of sand in the milky way. But it’s a great advice, you’re right. It doesn’t matter in my scenario…. But you took the fun out of it… big time

Can you edit the effect name on the HX One so you know at a glance what setting you're on or is it always the generic name?

Life Hack:

I just "shot" my favorite Helix Floor IR's (using Native) and imported them to a dual IR on my HX FX.

Now I don't need to bring my Helix Floor to rehearsal every time and can just run my pedalboard into the HX FX (IR -> Tile -> Stereo Imager) for sweet-sounding stereo direct recording!

Works like a charm. 😍

I had the GX-100 and GT-1000 at the same time for a while. The GT-1000 always sounded better. It's still, after all this time, my main gigging rig direct into FOH.

What kind of differences did you find? Did amps sound different, or effects?
