Helix 3.7: The Freeman Update

That'd be awesome. It's been what, years since the last PC update?!
Yeah, for sure. On the flipside, it’s also possible that they haven’t added it yet, because it’s even less important/likely than their discontinued products that the new app already supports… :poop:

The new app replaces a load of old updaters that have to be maintained across a lot of operating systems and versions.

I don't think it adds new options - for example: firmware update for JTV can be detected through a Helix + VDI, but it doesn't allow the firmware to be applied except through the previously supported options - dedicated interface if you have a working battery or HD500 VDI.

Given that JTV has been discontinued not investing in that improvement makes sense, although it is a bit disappointing in my specific cirumstances.

+1. It's basically Line 6 Monkey + Updater all rolled into one, with a common interface for different update engines. Great little QOL release.

Fwiw, I wish there was finally some options to deal with the amp&cab vs. amp and separate cab situation better. Namely:

- When switching from amp&cab to amp only or vice versa, the amp settings should be kept intact.

- It should be possible to quickly copy the cab settings of an amp&cab block to a cab block. Edit: Same goes for the amp settings.

- On an amp&cab block, the cab part should have a bypass function.

- The cab part of an amp&cab block should allow you to load IRs, too.

A metric ton of operations many people are possibly doing routinely would become a whole lot easier with these functions.

I like everything you are saying. It’s annoying to have to remember what amp settings you had just to try a separate cab. Also, I wish there was a better way to re-order IRs.

The entire IR management, even if it got quite better already, is still as bad as such things can possibly be.
In case you're missing an IR in a patch, there's no way to get it back, even if you still have that IR on your computer. HX Edit will tell you the IR is not there and that was it, end of story. Not only that it doesn't offer a search function (such as each and every software sampler these days), no, it won't even tell you the name of the missing IR. So, unless you kept track of things manually or during a backup, a patch missing an IR is a lost patch. IMO that is pretty much inacceptably bad.

Yeah, I never use Amp+Cab unless I'm out of blocks (rare for me), but it would be nice to at least be able to bypass the cab side for when you're running into a guitar cab or something like a Powercab.

And maybe the Helix can't easily store current settings in memory before switching blocks (I mean, there is no undo function either), but preserving shared amp settings when switching between Amp and Amp+Cab (and even Preamp) versions of the same amp would be useful, as well as between mono and stereo versions of the same block, and with single and dual cab blocks too (e.g. going from single to dual would copy the settings of the single cab to the first dual slot). Maybe another reason they don't is because then that would override user defaults when loading blocks, in which case a prompt or even global option would be great.

" Line 6 Voltage, Line 6 Original inspired by the classic British "plexi" amp, but with an additional gain stage and more tonal versatility"

"Line 6 Oblivion, Line 6 Original designed to cover both modern metal and old-school '80s thrash. We took out a lot of the noise associated with high gain, retaining just enough so that it doesn’t sound sterile or artificial. "

"Brit 2203,
based on* the Marshall JCM800 2203 (Stock)"
Also, yesss a new 1x8 Small Tweed cab too!

And an ODR-1!

And the reverbs! Nice job, Line 6!

Well, I'm really not much into asking for new sounds and what not (people will already know that additional usability things would make me much more happa), but maaaaan, this update delivers fantastic things in spades. Can't await giving it a testrun (kids, dinner, kids again first...).
