Guyz I fell off the wagon - Mesa content.

literally just buy it, shipping to and from Petaluma plus 2 hours labor and $25 misc very old components replacement parts, you're still ahead. actually more ahead, cause your $1200 studio pre has a 100% clean bill of health when you're done, the $1200 studio pre off reverb that plays fine already hasn't probably seen light on the traces in 15 years.
So I ended up talking with them again today and worked out a deal. Persistence or something….

He admitted they have no idea what they are doing and that there could be a user error issue in play. I’m not expecting that outcome.

If it’s able to output from the fx loop I might not even bother fixing it. If it’s trashed I still have 45 days to return it. In either event, shit worked out.

Flipping sweet bruv!!!

No risk. No reward. :banana

Hope that you get a sweet outcome. We all know 90+% of GC employees
are mostly clueless about gear. Certainly far more than the average forumite
here is. By a long shot!

If it’s trashed

it won't be trashed, it's legit probably the reverb spring broke loose and is shorted out on one of the jack pins or something lmao. just mail it to Petaluma, it's always some little bs issue, dude will go through the whole thing, fix the main problem, and also replace any old stuff that's drifted or dried out while it's there, they go through the whole thing every time they open something. then you know you're set for life with it for sure. talking like under $300 total with shipping labor and parts.

I appreciate the advice, thanks. Fortunately I have a tech who used to be a Mesa certified guy and LOVES working on Mesa gear. He’s handled all my Recto and Mark III maintenance. He will eat this up.

Thanks for hanging in there guys, that was a weird little ride. Can’t wait to investigate this thing. I’ve literally had dreams about the tones I used to get from my old one.

So far so good!

Fx loop send works, as well as both main and recording outs. Will keep an eye out for weird behavior.

Inside it’s very clean. Not sure about the stickers on the tubes. There’s a real nice JAN 5751 in there which is a little odd…I used to run my old Studio Preamp with a JAN 5751 in the same position.
