Saw the UA Lion on sale for $100 off. I do love me the Plexis so I thought why not? I’ll try it.
Well, it’s not completely terrible. The fun one out of the trio of amps available, for me, was the Brown amp. Cranking Channel I to 11 and Channel II to noon and the boosting the crap out of it with the onboard booster was pretty neato for sure. But that was kinda it.
The Super Bass amp might be good for pedals but I didn’t find it fun at all on its own. The Super Lead was better but even boosted it felt kind of tame and a bit lifeless. I get better touch, tone and feel out of my LPD pedals.
But did I mention the Brown Amp? Well, I’m going to again because what a blast. I think if they had upped the gain on the Super Lead and added the kerrang and chime the Brown Amp had in abundance… just give it a bit… the Super Lead would be much better. Then with two great amps and a pedal platform one this thing would be a winner. Oh and add a headphone jack FFS.
I plugged in my Amp Academy after wrestling with the Lion and instantly had a smile from its JCM800 and Bogner models.
Anyway, sadly it’s going back. I tried, I really tried.
