Got that 22U AxeAccebles rack up. Solid for the money. The base and casters are really sturdy. The only knock is the rack screws on the bottom third don’t line up 100% so I’m just bottom screw mounting those, which is fine for a rack that’s not going to move. Top 2/3rds lines up great so all good.

I think I’m going to pull the trigger on that RedSeven MSLM mixer and wire that in to the second patch bay. The rewire I need to embark on is going to suck, but it should be pretty badass once done.

Nielsen basically confirmed the Friedman preamp is coming in January. No clue what it will be, maybe the BE preamp? Would be pretty badass. (I’m assuming using the digital backend like the x88)

I’ve got a deposit on the Alta rack unit, but this flurry of hotrodded Marshall rack stuff being released is awesome.

Smart move by Dave to get his out before a Fish reissue.

Need some advice. I have a 17U server rack which will fit all of these rack units, as well as a Universal Audio Apollo 8P and an RME Fireface 800.

In that order should I put them in? All the power amps towards the top and the preamps below them?

Also, would it make sense to not rack the audio interfaces in the same box as the preamps and power amps in the interest of longevity and avoidance of excess heat? Or is that not something to worry about?

you need to consider:
1- possible electrical noise in the wiring (ground loops, power and midi cabling polluting the audio, etc)
2- ambient noise: Fryette/VHT with notoriously loud fans
3- weight distribution (as pointed out already)
4- rear panel access. Do you think you will wire it all up once and be done? Or will you need access that doesn't have you groping blind in a jungle
5- does the order of units in the front of the rack take precedence over the order in the back? You might want the units in a certain order in the front, yet, once installed the back panel access becomes a nightmare to wire up. Put your switcher/ mixer/ patch bay in the top and the waterfall of cables will make any wiring adjustments a time consuming difficult task. Really, the rear jack panels need to take priority over whatever order you think yo want in the front.
6- cable management= cable lengths, runs and fastening of cables

Heat? how warm is it where your gear will be installed? I rack my power amps separately so they are "easy" to move and work on if req'd. And it is seldom warm where I live. Nevertheless, I like one empty rack space (or half U) for every two units. Or is your server more a storage rack where you wire up as per task?

Plenty of questions to cover off when putting together a rack

Do you notice the VP4 changing the dynamics of your Syn/Mesa when it is line vs. not having it?

I keep thinking about grabbing a VP4, but not sure about that. I typically use old rack units though a rack mixer now for the analog dry.

I don't need ultra transparency, but yes the vp4 is one of the most transparent effects units I've used. Honestly most modern gear (the past 10 years or so) has great AD/DA converters.
 
I've said for a while that if I see one of these pop up cheap locally, I'll snag one.

I have some cleanup to do in the studio before I can even get to the back of my AxeFX to hook it up, but I think I'm going to dedicate a stereo loop in the AxFX to the SPX90>G-Force for shits and giggles. I'm not using the in's/outs for anything else.

The guy seemed pretty eager to sell it and it was a whopping $100, I pulled up to a beautiful house that'd fetch $2-$3mill when I picked it up and as soon as the dude stepped outside I could tell he wasn't the guy who owned the place. "My grandmother died earlier this week, she has a whole studio full of stuff up there. I don't know what any of it is so I'll send some pictures and see if you're interested in anything else"

Grandma's probably not even in the ground yet :guiness

Killer piece! As well as symphonic and the crusty reverbs, don’t sleep on the pitch change algos and delays. Instant Chino Moreno FX.
 
I was kinda bummed at myself for not setting it up yesterday and at least giving it a quick check. Alas, it’s a 3-day week and it should be a quiet holiday this year, so I’ll get plenty of time with it!

Make sure you have your DAW ready when you do. ;)

A buddy of mine wrote a song on the spot way back when he bought his when they first came out. Might not be quite the same thing, since those sounds have now been around for a long time, but just sayin'.
