The Rack Thread

I'm not even 40 yet and most of these are 30 years old already

I’m a basic bitch millennial and for no logical reason racks kind of give me the ick

THAT SAID

Looking at snake split options and want to build a proper rack for our XR-18 and IEMs. Right now the xr just precariously lies on the ground face up in the practice space. Have yet to roll it love vs just getting aux sends for IEMs but coming soon…

a pile of killer gear...with no rack...hmmmm?

yeah trying to consolidate into the apartment from years of pipe dream storage/testing, these are all empty now as of 1 hour ago

these are gonna need wheels :brick

ideally i just want the whole lot in one stack. I'm thinking a 12 or 16 on wheels for the heavy ass power amps and a few of the duplicate preamps then a 2 post for the majority of the daily driver preamps, most are really light, you could just pick the whole thing up and plop it down where you want it, desk/cab/floor...

The formula has the best clean out of all of those.
Your’s ?

hell yeah mesa graphic eq on a "post gain" tone stack mesa only exists in two places that i know of, Formula Pre and the Nomad. maybe the DC as well? for cleans it's amazing cause you always have two EQs in series ready to go. Something about those 90's mesa clean circuits, they're raw af by themselves, they feel like playing an acoustic instrument all hollow and resonant and snappy

Anyone here have a want/need for a Carvin (mirror front) TS100 power amp in great condition?

I never REALLY needed it, but I traded something for it, so it was easy. Having said that, it’s very near my, “not really worth selling/shipping” threshold, but, if a forum bro needed it, I’d consider it, etc.

Got the patchbay completely wired up full normal mode. It’s like adding magic to the setup.

I should have worked a patchbay in years ago. So nice being able to reroute without crawling on the ground. lol

Labeled it but that’s going to last about 37 days before I end up having to break out a sharpie or sticky note.

There is a special place in hell for designers that make devices with power switches on the back, but thats about the biggest gripe I have atm.
The first time I saw a patchbay in a studio I asked what is that?

The engineer said "It's a produced panel", took me another 20 years before I figured out that really I needed one :facepalm

Plugins do not = Vintage.jpg

If you're not going anywhere those are fine. A little flimsy for any transporting though.

I've got two 12 space SKB shock racks for *live* use that I now use for tube pre/power amps because they're awesome at heat dissipation.

First one ever built was for Pat Guyton, when he was touring with Shotgun Messiah, which he still had when we were jamming & tried to get a band/project going...

SoCal used to have guitarists on every street corner, but "good" bassists were hard to find :clint

I didn't realize I quoted the whole comment, yeah the skbs are great. I was more referring to the thin sheet metal ones at the bottom of the post.

yeah they're av racks meant for servers and stuff, cheapest option i could find to rack everything in the living room. if i ever need to take something to rehearsal I think I'd just pack out the fractal and 50/50 and a 4x12. running fractal in stereo with resistive load sic into tube power into a real 4x12 had me in fucking hysterics, global EQ is straight up nut-ville into a real 4x12

Yep makes sense. For a little bit more you could get a SoundTown or an Odyssey that would be more robust, but if the gear isn’t going anywhere those are definitely good enough.
