Fractal Talk

Well forget about the boss es-5 switcher as it's only mono loops, but the es-8 has 6 mono's and 2 stereos, so neither will work with my fractal set up if i want complete stereo. So I guess I'll just do what i planned by series chaining for now.

Ok maybe the boss es-8 can still work... Someone said on other forum "With the Boss ES-8 why not use two mono loops as a stereo loop, thus giving you more than two stereo loops i.e. five stereo loops in total."

HOWEVER.... The Morningstar ml10x may be the answer I'm looking for!

The Axe FX 3 can run three stereo loops and has an integral interface. It would also replace the VP4 and can do the bulk of what the H90 can.

Haha that may be where I end up eventually some day if I like the fm3. However I still think fm3 mark II and vp4 = more than axe fx III when it comes to what you can do. Like I could have 5 plex delays with this set up, but still only 2 with axe fx III and same applies to many of the other things.

Either way it may be something to think about to scale down some day! Because I drive myself nuts doing this sometimes along with everyone else :D lol

finally took a chance and uploaded the Beta
- the new compressors are really nice if you want that country clean or chicken picking snap , they will definitely get you there
they are cpu costly though , I have the OG FM9 and with comp (single) drive wah phase , flange , chorus, multi delay and verb I was hitting 80%
there was no way I could have added a pitch block or a plex delay or a second comp block .
- Amp modelling sounds good but I did not notice a huge difference sounded good before maybe a bit softer in feel more compression
- Friedman definitely tighter in the lows but still very dark and low mid heavy
- I can definitely start to see where the cpu is getting taxed I think the Turbo is 10% more so you might get in another block depending on what it is , but if your someone running best quality in the comp and cab block (not using Dyna cabs )with its and the preamp you are going to need a bigger boat possibly
I say possibly because if you are willing to spread the heavy effects out over several presets you will still be fine and with the addition of gapless switching at least we now have the option to do that

Brock now in the Fractalverse!!!

FM3 + VP4 will be immense dude. (y)

The AxeFXIII is constraining for simple effects usage:

Sometimes I wish I could add an 89th effect to one preset.

What was the cpu of same preset on the prior firmware?

Would have been low 70s maybe when I first installed the beta it was 83% and the warning was on had to delete the rotary and a few shunts
Then it was hovering at 79-80
With the blocks mentioned above
The reverb on the FM9 does not really affect things
Comp has to be 10% or more depending on the model

Hmm ok. This new firmware is making me a little nervous that it's going to break my existing presets. I'm hoping they can optimize the CPU some more or maybe keep the old comp models as a legacy option.

You may have to spread them out over a few presets I guess it depends how close to limit you are if you are already at 75% -80 then I would say you will have to readjust

Ok first day with the Fractal FM3 Turbo Mark II. Remember I'm coming from Line 6 Helix Floor for 9 years...

Ok got it around noon or so and the fm3 came with 7.0 firmware... Just plugging my Kiesel Zeus into the input and the 1/4th cables from FM3 to JBL studio monitors. So I thought well I'll play with it a bit before updating, however couldn't get no sounds going on. Meters were working and what not but no sound coming from the fm3 using 1/4th cables to my JBL's. I know it wasn't the cables because these work fine for my helix and was just using them for my VP4, so I went all over the place looking for settings and also the editor wouldn't work for me etc.. etc.. Also 7.0 just sucked loading when turning the unit on and waiting... It felt like windows xp or something haha!

Was a bit frustrated until I realized I didn't install the 2 drivers I needed for my windows and I did that and updated to the latest FM3 beta on fractal forum and added the dynacab file as well etc.. etc.. While waiting UPS showed up with my XLR cables from sweetwater which was perfect timing!

After the update which went smooth and thank god it turns on faster now with the latest update, and I got the XLR cables all hooked and suddenly I had sound! I am not sure why my 1/4th cables wouldn't work from the outputs on the back of the fm3? Something I'll look more into even if I'm not going to use them, still wanna know why!

Anyways, editor open and I'm already happy as a pig in mud just with the first stock preset, then the 2nd, then the 3rd. I felt like a kid in a candy store or that feeling I used to get when getting real amps and playing through them! I hated helix for like 2 weeks after getting it back in 2016 because of the sound but got better at working with it and loved it and used it for 9 years since. However with the fractal fm3 there's a warmness and some sort of compression or something that gives off this REAL vibe when playing that I just never really had in helix or boss etc. I was smiling and happy the entire time I was playing it for hours today! What amazed me is everything was usable and playable and sounding great. I never got that vibe in other units. Usually had to work for it and sometimes it just wouldn't work out, which isn't a bad thing per say, but the fm3 was instant fun right away, and imagine just tweaking a few slight things from a stock preset or user preset and you'd be set without even making your own! THE STORIES ARE TRUE THAT FRACTAL STOCK STUFF IS EXCELLENT RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX! I never found or liked a stock preset in helix. And...... Playing presets louder used to be brittle and I hated that on helix and boss so I always kept the volume down, however turning up the volume on fm3 didn't give me that issue and was still enjoyable at louder volumes! Also I don't know why people complain about getting around on the unit. I thought it was pretty well laid out and I enjoyed doing it lol. Although fm3-edit is definitely better and faster but I have no complaints about the unit really!

I did some jazz, blues, shred, 80's stuff, rock and roll, heavy metal and this is just going through stock presets and I only made it to like number 54 so far :D lol. I WAS HAVING SO MUCH FUN! I can't wait to play it again tomorrow, but I had to stop and update my fractal vp4 which just got a new update today!

So overall, color me impressed and super happy with the FM3 and now I want the FC-6 to put on the floor to control things!

P.S: This has got me thinking now about the FM9 already, but I really don't know if I need it having fm3 and vp4 to be honest and just being a home player/recorder.

In the end helix is still great and I have made a lot of great things with it and it has definitely gotten better since it came out and I love the UI of it and more fx loops and command center among other things, and of course L6 is a great company... but there's just something else going on with fractal gear that I'm really really loving more right now!

Perhaps I'll hook helix up on desk next to me and go back and forth when I am bored for different flavors!

As so many have said (self included) "best piece of electronic equipment I have ever purchased" (though mine is the FXIII, but mostly same stuff sound wise) ;~)) Glad you are enjoying and there are years of discovery ahead, for you and pretty much everyone else! Couple that with the undying efforts of the Fractal team to push it even further and the gift that keeps on giving, only gets better!! Looking forward to some innovative output from the Brockstar with these new toys!!!

And it’s only day 1
Congrats

The 1/4" outputs are for Output 2, every factory preset has the output block set to Output 1. The solution is to go into the settings menu, and for Output 2 set it to "Copy Output 1." This will give you sound through the 1/4" jacks.
