It will take me a few weekends to get a handle on the Axe before I can compare anything, I will not be so quick to judge the Helix either I still love it very dearly.

Yep, that’s the intention (I emailed their support last night). I just received an RMA number to ship it back for “repair or replacement.”

I was hoping they’d go the Line 6 route and first send a replacement, and then have me ship the old one back, but no dice there.

I really hope I don’t get this same one back unless they are absolutely certain of the issue & fix. Since I got it, there have been periods of a couple days where it’s worked fine, and then the problem will appear out of nowhere. I was 100% convinced it was dead for good last night, but now it’s booting normally again

Man, I don't like when the FM9 is lumped in with that. The "big dog" is a rack, which I just don't want any part of these days. If the Axe-FX 3 somehow existed in floorboard form, I'd pay the extra and grab it with no delay. But I don't wanna do anything modular anymore....no Axe-FX III.

The price I pay for that preference is delayed "middle child" firmware development.

I was thinking about buying the FM9 instead, but judging by how much I use the footswitches on my Helix Floor which is 100% of the time on top of a guitar cab, not much, I decided to buy the rack unit and add a midi foot controller at some point to do basic stuff.

Makes sense. Btw Morningstar controllers have some integration with the Fractal stuff so they might be a good alternative to the FC6/12.

While you can certainly use midi for most things. The fc line is just integrated so well (obviously). You can find the FC 6 for $300 used at times

Yeah it's definitely nicer to use than MIDI controllers since there's less programming needed from the user.

My only beef with the FC controllers is the cost. Also, I think a FC8 would have been the perfect size.

Harsh, bro. Like I said...it's the price I pay for demanding only convergence devices. Cliff can't put all of that muscle car power in any sort of feasible floor version, so I have to have the middle child (FM9).

I dunno if delaying is the right word; Cliff develops on the III then hands it off to the FM9 and FM3 teams to sort it out, Cliff just steps in when they need assistance. That said, I can imagine there’ll be times Cliff is a couple steps ahead of each time and it might make more sense to hold off on a beta for the 9/3 until Cliff finishes something on the III so it all gets incorporated together instead of piecemeal‘ing updates out.
