I wonder if this is intended to connect e.g FM3 + "FX4" together, which you could further chain to an audio interface I guess since unlike the FM3, there's both a SPDIF in/out?

Don't know the intention but that seems like a logical explanation. No D/A > A/D conversion required when connecting to another FAS processor, or another one of these new devices, and avoiding added latency.

Most of the time people running 4cm are in mono. Perhaps you can set the R in/out to be the FX loop?

Lack of loop is concerning if this is a FAS multi Fx and not just a delay/verb type pedal. (Timeline/BigSky etc)

I was thinking the same.

Splitting L/R In for this purpose is a no-brainer, really. But sacrificing stereo out is more likely to be problematic.

Why does an FM4 have stereo inputs ? And no XLR out ? Is it… actually an efx unit ?

In my opinion SPDIF is super important for integration, but for some reason everyone except Fractal omitting it from everything but their flagship.

I'd guess it can.because that, combined with spdif would make it super cool as a desktop unit for recording, wouldn't it?
