Yup. I don't understand it. When the Rockman first came out everyone got one and then after a bit we all realized that the sound was sterile, flat and overly compressed.

If you think that guitarists are recording straight from a mic’d cab to the board without any post EQ, you’ve never witnessed a recording or mixing session.

Even Andy Sneap is on record of having to “EQ the crap out of” John Petrucci’s mic’d tone in order for it to sit well in the mix.

Obviously I know that. Rockman sounds a lot better on some recordings than others.

Perspective…. I had a Soloist back in the 80s (I was a broke-assed teenager and couldn’t afford the X100), and for its flaws it turned me on to the advantages of direct recording. That set me on a course that eventually led me into the digital world, and now I’m a very happy Fractal Audio repeat customer.
